in the summer i use 10w because its thicker. Winter i use 5w, easier to circulate around the motor upon startup when its below freezing. Thats the only rule of thumb i use. :)

Yeah it is considering my old 318 in my Dodge Diplomat used 5 quarts total.

Well what else are you going to do with the last .5qt. of oil leave it in the bottle? might as well be in the engine with a bigger oil filter doing some good.

it does hold more, and does give more filter area... but that does not mean it's better.

Yes it does the more filter area at the same pump flow rate means the oil is traveling slower through the element giving it a longer time to pick out any inpruities(SP) out of the oil and keeping the bypass valve closed longer not letting unfiltered oil back into the engine.

Also why the heck not get a larger filter? They cost the same and it keeps from having a 1/2qt. of oil laying around that serves a better use inside the engine.

.

You just gave yourself the answer.... what does "slow moving oil" translate to?

Hint... you buy a gauge for this.

So you are saying the larger filter will drop the overall oil pressure in the engine????

It translates to better filtered oil with the same filtering medium. Why do all the diesels run super big filters. I know just because they can, not to keep the oil as clean as they can keep it.

The only thing a guage would do is (that is if you were keeping a close eye on it) is see it wiggle when the bypass opens.

From my experience, yes.

I've done this several different times... granted it's not a huge loss in oil pressure, and only happens at idle, but 5-7psi is a difference with the SHO's low oil pressure at idle.

Granted this was on a GenII... so I guess next time I need to check the forum.... I do not know the specs/flow rating on the V8's.... :slap:
