I'm doing the cam seals on the SHO and it looks like I can get the timing belt off without having to remove the crank pulley. My concern is that I can't seem to line up the top timing belt marks with the cam sprockets. Seems to be two teeth off but it runs fine.

I should be able to line everything up, right?

Two years ago I did the front 60K and lined everything up perfectly. But did have to replace the timing belt sprocket and woodruff key because the key ate into the sprocket. Ran like crap then but runs fine now and the crank bolt was tight as a......well, you get the idea.

Thanks for the help in advance!

you need it lined up properly. two teeth off will run, but will be seriously down on power and will not pass emissions.

typically, I turn the crank a little so that I can get the belt on, and then once I tighten the belt, the marks all are lined up just as they should be.

As long as the reference marks line up on the cams and crank sprockets line up the lines on the belt don't matter.

Those belt markings are so that the dullards (dumb *****) don't leave to much slack on the right side and top of the belt!
Also 2 teeth off usually means you have the belt on backwards.

Got it.

Forgot that the 3.0/3.2 lines line up at the bottom. The lines and marks up top are good.

I think I can get these cam seals without having to mess with the crank pulley!!:woo-hoo:

Thank you for the help!

My experience has been that the crank will move slightly once the belt is tensioned.

How can you see the dot on the crank sprocket with the crank pulley installed?

woodruff key is at 11o clock 180* opposite of the 5 o clock sprocket mark but then again I always tighten the tensioner while the harmonic balancer is off ,never seen much movement there!

Yeah, the crank moves with the belt in place. About a tooth counterclockwise when the tensioner puts pressure on it. Thought something was wrong, took it off and re-did it and the same thing happened. One would think the belt itself was short and the effort to get it on the sprockets told me there was no slack in it at all but it did go on.

Experienced this with the old engine and also the one I recently rebuilt which was on an engine stand at the time.

I used the Dayco belt that doesn't have marks in it. And according to the specs, it's the same as the other belts listed for the SHO.
