Hey All,

I have a problem with my Red '95 Taurus GL 3.8l. I'm aware it's not an SHO, I have one of those also, a Red '95 MTX with it's own issues.

The questions I have have to do with the pictures below.

The picture with the bad brake lines is the GL. I need to know what this part is/does ( what's it's name and does someone have a part number ) and I need to get it replaced, so my mechanic says, to be able to replace the brake lines. The middle top line has a hole in it and the others aren't far behind. Car is currently not drive-able because of this issue and a bad caliper.

Is this a once piece unit or does it separate and press fit the top lines? Looks like there are washers? on the top lines, obviously nuts on the bottom.

You can see by the good picture, which is on the SHO and in better shape since it's been garaged for more than 20 years since I've owned it. These two parts Look to be the same. Are they? Are they interchangeable?

The local Ford dealer gave me this for a part number: F3DZ2C287B.

GL:
Tri tube n block 4u

SHO:
Six line dist block 4u

I believe those are just bulkhead junction blocks to make running the brake lines easier from the factory. I think you could remake the lines and connect them with individual bulkheads.

The black piece is just there to hold the brake lines against the inner fender. Remove it and you have regular flare fitting brake lines. Clean and reuse the black piece and replace the brake lines.

Hi,

So in your opinion, the one on the Taurus GL is the same as the one on the SHO? Both my GL and my SHO have 3 lines on the top and bottom, your picture shows only 2 on the bottom, can you explain?

So if I remove this black block, does the block split open? Will the system lose all fluid once it's opened? On the top of your picture, I see 3 what looks to be like washers, what are they because all 3 on the GL are complete rusted away.

What keeps this block tight and the washers on top in place, just the one bolt? Are those special washers? Why are there no nuts on the top, what keeps it tight?

In the off chance this block has been damaged, can a new one be had?

Much thanks!

I doubt the bends are the same. People have been custom bending and flaring brake lines forever. Plug and play options are great but these are just too old in general. Maybe something on a shelf somewhere but that is difficult to find and timing isn't ideal if you have an itch to get it fixed.

There are no washers. You are seeing way more than is actually there.

This consists of a black plastic block that is only there to secure the brake lines to the inner fender. It is held in place by one bolt. Remove that bolt and the black block slides up on the brake lines and exposes the flare fittings that are hidden inside the block.

There are four brake lines in my photo. From right to left, the front left wheel (not in the block), front right wheel, and the two rear wheels. The front right line isn't connected in the photo. That's why you see three lines going into the block and only two coming out. I hadn't connected the front right line yet. All four lines are coming from the ABS pump. The front left wheel is one line that goes directly to the front left. The other three have flare connections at the block.

Thank you for that explanation. The block only slides up the brake lines and can't be taken off unless lines are cut and re-flared with new lines, correct?
