Question on 3.0's and Trans

We have a racing series that can run 6 cylinder engines of 3.0 liters or less. They must also have an automatic transmission. Did any of the early SHO's of the 3.0 series come with the Automatic transmisson ? If not can a later automatic be mated with the 3.0 motor ?
Will a 3.0 valve cover fit on the 3.1 liter ? with the automatic.
Where can I go to learn more on these topics ?

All the ATX SHO's came with 3.2L (well, or the v8), but as far as I know you should be able to mate a 3.0 up with the ATX tranny just fine as it is semi-commonly done the other way around. You would almost certainly want to rebuild and beef up the ATX tranny, install a shift kit, etc as the SHO ATX more or less blows. They tear apart fairly easily and are sluggish shifters (to help avoid tearing them apart).
