i was hooking up new speakers in my 1989 SHO and went to the top of the dash where it looks like speakers might go. I took off the speaker grille on the passenger side to find what looks like might be a module for a keyless entry. Where you able to get keyless entry on an 89' ? i have the key pad on the doors. If so , how do i get a remote for it or get it to work? the module looks like a blue laser transmitter .
-thanks

I'm going off of a really hazy memory here-
Yes if you have the keypad you have keyless entry.

I believe that "module" near the dash is the sun sensor for the auto lights/ climate control.

I think the module for the keyless is on the drivers side trunk, on the wall somewhere. The code for it should be mounted on the inside of the trunklid somewhere.
Type it in and then hit 3/4 to open all 4 doors, 5/6 to open the trunk. All buttons must be pushed within 5 seconds of each other or you have to start over. Hit 7/8 and 9/0 at the same time to lock the doors.

It should light up when you push a button, if not check the fuses/ connections.

The early models didn't have a keychain, maybe you can swap a GenII module/keychain??

If you do searches there are a lot of posts on how to change the codes and even how to change them PERMANENTLY.

I think the first year for the remotes was '93. If the box in the trunk has an antenna feed which looks like what would plug into your radio it can use the remotes. If not then it just works the keypad on the door. I tend to use the keypad more because the remotes suck.
