Hey everyone,

I have a 1992 MTX with 155k on the clock. Full 60k was performed at 110k. I am having some very strange stalling issues with my SHO lately.

While driving down the road , the car will suddenly shut off, then the car will usually jump start itself because I am still rolling.

Sometimes however, the car will not restart for 10-15 minutes, then it will fire right up.

This is what is puzzling to me...

CODES

KOEO

111
111
1
157 - MAF
211 - Ignition
542 - From stalling
556 - From stalling
557 - ?

The 211 scares me because of the CPS, but it was replaced during the 60k and the water pump is not leaking, and NEVER, has the tach not moved when attempting to restart the car.

And sometimes, if I unplug the MAF, the car will start right up, and sometimes, when I unplug the MAF, it will not just start right up, which puzzles me even more.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks guys,

Phil

well, it could be a bad sensor, premature failure, that is usually the only thing that causes flat out stalling...i mean like where other cars would begin to run like crap and then stall...

When I did my first 60K I replaced a working CPS with a new one as a preventative measure. My bad luck "Murphy" was looking over my shoulder. 4 months later my SHO would not start. No spark, but had 400rpm on the tach when I was cranking the motor. After a few weeks of denial and checking everything else, I resigned myself to the fact that my new CPS failed. I would hook up a timing light the next time it won't start to check for spark. If you don't have spark, its the CPS.

Could be the fuel pump (BTDT) or a hundred other things. When my fuel pump went out it did exactly what you are describing for over a year before it was properly diagnosed and replaced.

The 211 code and the symptoms you describe point to the crankshaft position sensor (CPS or CKP). I will ask if the CPS was gapped to .03" during its replacement? You could have been unlucky and installed a poorly made sensor. They can't all last forever. What brand did you use?
