Puzzling Batt Light

Interesting problem. Alt went a couple of months ago on my 94 ATX. Connection appeared to be rusted out. I bought a new battery and alt from AZ and cleaned out the connection, everything seemed fine. Month ago, light comes back on. This time however, the light goes on and off, but the car appears to be working a little harder when the light is on. I can actually hear a higher pitched noise coming from the exhaust. So i bought a new connection and installed it hoping that would work, only made it worse. The car has not quit and this has been going on for a month. Since the new plug has been installed, when the batt light goes on, the exhaust noise gets louder and my rpm's increase slightly at idle. Batt terminal connections are fine, grounds appear to be in place. Any ideas??

most likely an alternator problem. i know that u said u just had it changed, but thats usually what happens...i had a 91 ****** gt and the alt was going out. the last day i drove it with the old alt., it was at night, the lights were dimmer at idle and as you reved up, just about all the lights progressively dimmed.

if you are really unsure, a lot of shops can test it. also it will prolly take the battary out with it.

clearly an alt related problem. What type of problem remains the mystery here...
