Hey scott thanx for your advice it helped me through the process..

It took approx 6 hours- since the fittings were such a pita to get back on.

Now the steering effort is so nice- and its actually a joy to drive the car again but now i have this slight problem- lots of hissing and i think air trapped in the high pressure side. Also, much vibration is felt through out the steering turning right and sometimes left. first whats the problem and second how to fix it.

thanx again

also ranger j contributed to helping me through the process and a few more that i cant remember off my head.

Probably air in the system.

Perform the standard purge procedure.

If the probelm persists, you will need to perform a vacuum purge per the service manual to get all the air out of the system.

FWIW, there is an interesting tech bulletin on Cardone's site addressing the use of a filter when replacing the rack. The article indiated that not installing a filter will cause the replacement rack to exhibit some strange symptoms as it clogs with contaminants in the system. See the article here: http://www.cardone.com/English/Club/Products/Steering/Protech/Tech_Bulletins/pt5-22.asp

BTW, the filter from Cardone is only 2 bucks if ordered from rockauto.
