Hi all. I tried looking for somewhere on the net to help guide in taking out the sho engine and tranny. I would expect to start by dissconnecting the exhaust and all sensors, etc. Then what.... I am just going to start pulling everything off and leave as much to the engine as I can. Does anyone know what the easiest way to pull the engine out or even a guide or thread that explains it......

I think that's sorta what he's asking...

You can pull it out the top or the bottom, pros and cons with both.

Might peruse SHOpheonixproject.com for getting it down to pulling the tranny and go from there. Get a service manual and read, read, read. Find someone who's done it to help.

When we work on a Taurus,(if needed) We usually disconnect the sub-frame,
and lift the body up. Put the tran. in nuetral, and wheel it where you want. Or the engine and sub-frame can be wheeled around with a large floor jack.
(and some help!) This is of course provided you have access to a lift...
To change the clutch, the lift from the top (just enough) Method is better.
IMO.

Thanks... I read that way, but I decided I want to leave the subframe and axles (wheels) attached if possible. I would like to only pull the engine and tranny from the top. Any advice on this? TIA

Alright I like that... So far today I took out the following... (some things are useless to take off, I know...) Batt, Tray, Alt + belt, Rad, all wiring on drivers side, IRCM, Rad hoses, exhaust heat shield, coil pack, that black bracket on the diff/tranny...

What is connected to the engine on the drivers side... From engine it goes.... engine, flywheel... and thats as far as I know so far... I do know that there is a tranny there and differential... then the axles... can someone clarify this for me?

I am going top start un bolting whatever is closest to the engine first unless that is wrong... I just want to clear out the whole engine bay so I can unbolt the exhaust from the engine and access the motor mounts?!??! TIA

the motor mounts unbolt from the bottom of the subframe, 22mm nuts iirc, and there is a trans mount too that can be accessed from the driver's wheel well. unbolt it from the frame and leave it on the trans. you can get the y-pipe off from the bottom. you really don't have to take off the exhaust manifolds in the car. i thought there was a sticky with a really good writup/pics for removing the engine through the bottom but i can't find it. i guess i'm blind.

Thanks Jason for the pics! I am going to attack the motor mounts on the subframe and the trans mount.... Once those are loose, can the block be pulled up with the bellhousing and tranny still attached? Also, is it just sensors and exhaust I have to dissconecct, and basically its ready to pull?

where is the rear motor mount located? I have disconnected basically everything except the rear motor mount and the exhaust... I am going to have to cut the Y-pipe because of PO quality exhaust system.... I just need to find that rear motor mount.... thanks

there are two bolts holding the trans mount to the frame, both the front and rear mounts are on the passenger side, if you found the big nut holding the front mount to the frame, look at the other side of the engine and you'll see the rear one, its a little more recessed up into a mount "tower" on the subframe.

Ok, I see it and another big nut closer to the drivers side... should I just disconnect both... what is the other big nut... I am sure I disconnected the trans mount (on drivers side wheel well)... thanks!

sounds like you are talking about the steering rack nuts, the rear motor mount is a little more foward of that. anyone have a pic of a bottom of a subframe to show him?

Alright, I got the rear mount nut off, along with the fuel rail. The engine seems really wobbley now which seems like its ready to pull! Anything else I should check for before I actually try to pull the motor out?

Sensor wires and hoses? Power steering lines? AC lines? Other than that you should be good to go!

trany+engine pulling is not hard at all. i pulled mine out in two hours. half shafts removed, after pulling ball joints free. i unplugged all sensors (all to motor, and two to trany) and water pipes, exhaust pipes, AC hookups, vehicle speed cable (trany), and fuel lines (requires special tool). i alone pulled engine and trany. starter wires taken off. then sub frame engine/trany bolts. up removement is easy when you got the cherry picker. PS: got an extra 92 3.0 250K engine for sale on engine stand. just add trany!!!!!
