This morning was fun.

Driving on the parkway this morning to work I noticed my full sweep Autometers were at 220F for water which is high but not unreasonable and the whole time oil pressure kept dropping lower and lower. Didn't really occur to me that anything was wrong until I started slowing down for my exit. As the engine was dropping rev so was the oil pressure. Anti-climatically I rolled to a stop and the Autometer read 4~5 psi at idle and the red pressure light started flickering as soon as I pulled off at my exit. Holy shnikes the SHO is finally gonna go. I put rod bearings in 12k miles ago thinking this day would never arrive under my ownership. Didn't know if I should cry or be overjoyed. But hey, at least I now know my stock oil pressure switch is properly calibrated and operating at 5 ~ 6 psi.

Limp into a parking lot about 1/4 mile from the exit and discover the upper rad house blew off on the parkway and spewed yummy green ecto cooler all over the unsuspecting drivers behind me.

This is pretty ironic because I planned on cooling system work this week. I've been planning on running straight water and water wetter.

Think I hosed it?

Both stock and aftermarket temp gauges never read an overheat condition, but then again I dumped every once of coolant out, ouch. No knocking noises during that 1/4 mile low pressure trek.

Car ran fine after I put the hose back on and filled it with 2 gallons of coolant I carry around.

Oil pressure is back at previous levels (which were never high to begin with).

But unsure if I'll discover warped heads or premature rod bearing failure in the near future.

Just keep an eye on it, it's probably fine.

An oil change wouldn't hurt, either, if it got hot.

That's the way the system works. Coolant temp is directly related to having coolant for the sensor to read. No fluid and temp will hold the temp of the last coolant that went across it.
