I've added this poll because as I'm reading through recent threads it's surprising to me how many highly modded members have yet to do the modification. Feel free to elaborate below if desired.

I want to tap mine even though I have a PP. Looks pretty simple honestly. I haven't yet because it has been stupid hot.

Really it is pretty straight forward. It’s just getting over the fact that you’re doing it was the hardest part for me. But I mean, the absolute worst thing that could happen is you botch the hole. No big deal, then you just need a bigger one, less botched.

Where's the "no, I just change it when it needs changed" option.
Once you do it afew times it gets pretty easy. Extensions and socket are kept together in a tool box and catless downpipes help.

I mean.... Just use a good suction gun to get it mostly out... Even flush some through and you'll be fine.

This is what I bought to help do services.

You hook it up to a 3/8 drill/impact. It sucks old out, then you can pump new in....

Milwaukee fans will love this.

I'm a Milwaukee guy but I just do happened to buy the drill driven one before I had seen it.

Oh and you guys worrying about getting metal into the unit... Come on now... We all know how gravity works.... Then grease on the tap, which it's a pipe plug so it shouldn't even be getting much into the case... Then mix a 1/4 qrt flush and it's fine...

Plus...the case is aluminum? I'm not a metalurgist, but...I don't think aluminum will do much to those gears.

My concern has been what Kevin81 said. I have a concern about getting the shavings from drilling the hole into the PTU. I do a partial change each time I change the oil, using a vacuum brake bleeder....and then a small bottle top pump.

Which works. Its what I did a month or so ago. But I will be tapping the PTU when I get back from camping.

The PTU case is like a hard anodized aluminum. The gears are hardened, high carbon steel. Aluminum will squish through them like butter.

Thanks guys....while the vacuum tool works, it's one more thing I have to clean, etc when I use it.

Maybe I'll just do the drill n' tap. I think I saw instructions for the this on these pages...
