So today my son and I tried for over 2 hours to get the drain plug out off the PTU.

Read and reread each thread. I didn't want to pull the downpipe because the bolts looked like if I did they'd break off. And the drain plug is a pain to get too. Plus it's a hex plug, not a 3/8.

So I decided if the only way is to pull the downpipe, I may as well upgrade while they're off. So I'll be Xmas shopping for the SHO lol.

See now, little tidbits of info like that would've been helpful in advance. I noticed that the space just didn't allow for removal and my son said lets just cut some off, but I said no, that can't be right lol. Lesson learned.

So if any of you are posting and holding back useful info, give it up in advance lol.

Sure, I realize that now lol. Just saying in every thread I read no one elaborated on that.

I'll be shopping for some cheap ones to cut up lol.

Even in the field, what seems like common knowledge or sense to me, isn't to the next guy.

As I grow older, it seems that experience is the name of the game. You can be edjamacated, but for me, untill I do it it doesn't mean poo.

This is not ment to be derogatory.

Well I'm thoroughly enjoying the amount of traffic this is getting lol.

I too, being almost 60, know that life is always a learning experience. It's just nice to find shortcuts that make it more enjoyable and tasks easier to accomplish lol.

I posted everything you need if your car is PP equipped about 10 threads below. I can't think of any reason the drain plug shouldn't come out without the use of any excessive force and a impact is out of the question. I popped mine out without any effort using a 1/4" drive ratchet and a 1/4" hex bit from a bit driver set. The steel plug has sealer on it (not Loctite) and fits an aluminum case, there's no reason for it to bind. Take a look at the thread and give it a shot.

Interesting discussion! Reminds me that as I dig through my tools to do something, I'll come across some odd tool of some sort. In thinking about it, it's always something that I made/bought for some particular circumstance. Usually SHO related from years back.

I just drained my PTU yesterday. I got frustrated trying to use a 1/4" allen due to the lack of room so I used the squared drill end of a hex bit and used a 1/4" open end wrench to turn it. Worked fast and easier than an allen.
It did take me over 1.5 hours to get 12oz of fluid back in the vent hose opening though! SLOW!
