Is there a PTO/PTU rebuild kit? I had mine replaced with a new FORD PTU this week and want to go over the old one and open it up to see how bad off it is inside. EG: Bearings, gears etc..... I want to use it as a template to build a better PTO/PTU cooler of my own design too. It was grinding but hadn't self destructed as of yet or crack its case.

Sure! Thanks. I’m guessing bearings are easy to find and standard sizes etc. Seals too.
You can get the gears remetal coated to fix wear?

I stopped at the point of researching the bearing replacements. I put a pause on that project for the time being, but it MAY be an issue finding them. I did some cursory research on the them (I have all the part numbers pictured in that thread should you want to do more research) and can't find much from the Iljen catalog. I'd really like to switch to some Timkin or Torrington bearings, but haven't gotten that far down my research path. I can't find those part numbers even in the Iljen inventory, but it may just be because Ford sourced them from Iljen as Ford-specific bearings, which doesn't mean they don't cross to anything. If you are able to pick up the baton and get some info on replacement bearings, please update us as I'd like to put that info in that PTU build thread as a resource.

With the amount of abuse the PTU takes, it's important to ensure replacement bearings are not just the same dimensions, but are rated for the amount of loads and rpms...That was the information I was trying to find from Iljen as a jump off point to replacement bearings. We have a local industrial bearing supply place where I live that I was going to bring these part numbers to, but never got around to it...

As for re-metal...I would say no...these gears take way too much abuse. I was just giving them the WPC strengthening treatment. But I'm not familiar enough with re-metal processes to know how viable it is.

If the gears are shot in the PTU you have, it may be worth just buying a new one...they re only about $700...

EDIT: Actually, the PTU may be a JTEKT product that Ford "sources" from them and may need some research going that route to nail down some replacement components...

There were some significant internal changes made in late 2016 and I assume the rebuild kit is more of a retrofit kit...putting the internals from the 2017-up into the older models.

Steeda Rear Toe Links | Steeda Rear Trailing Arm: are these the mustang ones that also fit the SHO?

Probably a better idea to ask that question in it's own thread as this is a thread about the PTU...no one is going to come here to answer your toe link question in a PTU thread.

I just got a new vent hose and cap because the original vent cap was plugged. Ford part number DB5Z-7034-C is a longer hose than originally cam with the car and includes a new vent cap.
