So i recently puchased a 93 sho 3.2 for not a lot of money simply because the guy that had it was to lazy to make the neccessary repairs. Anywho to make a long story short it had a oil leak from the front crank seal which obviously dripped on the converter and made it look like it was on fire, so i went ahead and replace the pan gaskets, oil pump to block gaskets and crank seal and while im there new belt. My question is should i or shouldnt I switch to synthetic oil. The car only has 90,000 original on it and is straight inside and out.

I suggest you use Motorcraft semi-synthetic for a few oil changes because these engines tend to get sticky rings, and in my experience the Motorcraft semi-synthetic is excellent at loosening sticky rings. If, after you drive it a while you determine that the engine does not have a ring issue, then you will be fine with synthetic oil.

Up to you. I don't know if you will be able to determine any difference in internal wear as you don't know how the first 90k went.

My personal opinion is I usually go with semi or full traditional oil in these cars. The seal mating surfaces and tolerances and the tendency to leak makes me choose something maybe thicker-- but that is superstitious nonsense as I have no facts to back up that choice.

Castrol 5w-30 or 10W-30 regular or high-mileage (which is semi-synthetic). I used Mobil 1 for the first 100K miles, and I am convinced it was responsible for oil seal leakage.

I have been running Amsoil 5w-30 in my 93 SHO ATX since I purchased the car back in 1995 with 20k miles. I now have 175k miles and running great.
I changed the rod bearings at 150k miles and the inside of the oil pan was clean. The car does not burn nor leak any oil.

When I visited Vadim the Great at the SHO Shop in August 1996 for my 60K service, my '89 SHO had 166K mi on it. Vadim put in Redline 10W-40.

Over the past year I've tried the full synthetics including Valvolene and Castrol. My SHO runs the smoothest on Mobil 1 High Mileage 10W-40.
