problems with speedometer

just bought the car and the speedometer was not working the guy told me the people that put the new clutch in did not hook it back up but i checked where it pluggs in to the transmission and it was plugged in so what could be the problem with it thanks just need it working i do not want to get pulled over for speeding

May have pulled lose at the cluster. A quick test is to pull a section loose in the engine bay and tighten a power drill up to the cable in reverse. Watch the speedo for movement. I believe a regular Taurus or Sable will have the same long section if a junkyard run is needed.
