My car is a 1993, 3.0 5 speed... This was a night and day kind of thing, I went to back into my normal parking spot and it is on a slight incline, and my rpms shot up... almost like my clutch was slipping. I tried it on flat ground and I'll balance clutch and gas, get it going and press the clutch in and the rpms will shoot up a bit (with my foot off the gas). It doesn't seem to be slipping on level ground. This is the second half of my confusion, gears 1-5 work fine, incline, flat ground whatever... no slipping, nothing. This clutch was replaced almost 2 years ago by a very good local ford shop. What the **** is going on?

Throttle position sensor? Sounds like the engine is trying to idle, even when you're feathering the clutch and gas pedal to "balance" the car. When you press the clutch, the IAB tries to close, but the RPMs raise slightly anyway.

The same thing should happen when you don't use the gas and just load the engine up with the clutch and then press it to the floor quickly.

Come to think of it, as long as the engine is below the Idle Threshold, the IAB will open to try to compensate for the load and keep the engine at the proper idle speed. Depending on how fast the engine was turning when you pressed the clutch to the floor, the raise in RPM might be normal. It also might be contributable to a gummed up, slow moving IAB valve.

As far as the perceived clutch slippage, I got nothing. Can you try to describe it another way?

When I'm on the incline and I go to back up it seems like the RPM's drop off like its going to stall, then when I give it gas and let off and press the clutch in they shoot up. I might have to record it. It really is odd.
