I purchased a set of Yokohama AVS dB 225/50/16 off tirerack and was told by several members that they will fit. So I take it over to just tires and i am told that the tire wont fit against the rim at 70psi, im not sure what the exact term he used was. But what i dont understand is WHY it doesnt work. Any ideas? Bad tire?

I have 225/50/VR16 Falkens on my slicers. Sounds like that guy is jerking you around. And what's up with that 70 psi you mentioned? I hope you don't mean 70 psi after on the rim. Take a look at this pic-

I have 225/55/16 Yokohama AVS Sports on my slicers with only 40PSI of air. Do you mean 70PSI of air on the rim? Or did you mean something else? Ignore the pinkish SHO fill in the pics above  .

you use an initial high burst of air to seat the bead of the tire to the rim. It sounds like these guys don't have much experience with low-pro tires. It can be a bitch to do, but if they took their time, they would have been able to do it.

That tire is not a low pro for a 16, it will fit just fine.

I just installed 225-60-16's on mine no problem

even 50 series are usually considered low profile Kirk, because there is usually alot of sidewall stiffness. That's is probably why they couldn't get it on.

I currently have 225/50ZR-16 Dunlop SP8000's on my 1991 SHO. I had 225/50ZR-16 BFG CompT/A ZR's before that. Take the tires to a competant tire shop. Be aware that your car will sit lower and if you have SHO Shop linears like I do, you'll scrape on everything. I have just under 3 1/2" clearance between the ground and the bottom of the bumper cover in the front.

I've got Dunlop D40 M2 225ZR50 -16s on my '93 and Firestone had no trouble mounting them. I run them at 42 PSI and they're great! Watch out for these shops that don't have the experienced people to mount your tires properly. They can end up destroying your car and you.

Awww c'mon I have the same springs with 235/40/18's and I dont scrape everything just here and there :p . I usually scrape the flat plastic deflector behind the bumper more than I do the bumper itself, sounds like you have about the same drop as me thumbs_u .

Brad, call me at my job tomorrow (tuesday) and I'll help ya out. The problem w/ the yokohomo's is that they're bead construction is quite thick, due to their sidewall design. They are somewhat of a PITA to mount, but I've done worse. :) Try mounting a Hooise road racing 225/50 15(!!) on a 5.5" rim... Talk about over lap and a PITA of a mounting job. In order to get that bead to pop, you need bead **** (tons of it), the valve core removed, and prying on the bead as your inflating it. (to even the bead out as it pushes against the rim's lip) Bring it by... BTW, sorry i never got back to your email chief.
