So within 2 hours of using the auto headlights for the first time in years really, my turn directionals stop working. I had recently taken my aftermarket fogs off because one bulb burnt out and its impossible to change the bulb with them on the car. I just taped up the wires and left the switch off. My friend told me my outer brake light was burnt so i switched the bulb with the one right next to it, not having a replacement, and hoping the directionals didn't work because that bulb was burnt. It doesn't seem like the bulb is burnt though because the same light didn't work again and the "bad" bulb works fine in the other socket. I ordered a new multifunction switch hoping it's that, does that make sense to anyone, the 4-ways still work fine too. Does anyone think that using the autolights or taking the fogs off could've caused the problem and does anyone else have a fix other than changing the multi-switch? Thanks

Assuming the fuses are good, examine the flasher, it's behind the autolamp panel (it pops out).

could the flasher be bad seeing the 4-ways still work fine? I'll check it out anyway, thanks

nope the flasher seems fine, clicks normally with the four ways only.

Does anyone else have any ideas? Come on guys, do i need to write BOOBIES IN THIS THREAD as the topic to get people to read it? lol

I had a similar problem. The turn signals would blow the fuse after a couple of hours. I eventually took it to an auto electrician, and he fixed it. It ook him about 3 hours to find the problem.

If you look at the electrical schematic, you will notice that there are several items tied in to the that particular circuit. I do not remember which ones, but he traced all the wires that were connected to that fuse, and he found that some of them were in bad shape, especially the ones iside the engine compartment.

He said that the heat and the age of the car were the culprit, and some of the wires were exposed. He taped them up and the problem went away. He only charged me $75.00. I was there while he worked on the car, so I saw all the work he went through.

You have to undestand the complexities of car wiring, if not you will never solve the problem.

I had another problem. The brake fuse would blow everytime I stepped on the brakes.
I could not solve the problem, so I ran a hot wire direclty to the pedal brake switch.

Electrical problems are almost impossible to solve if you do not have the training.

Good luck,

Jose

thanks for the response. All of the fuses are good so i guess thats a plus. I'm hoping its the multi switch. I'll be able to change it tomorrow. When i installed the one in there now the brake lights would sometimes flash if i put the right directional on and didn't click it into the hold. That told me the switch was screwed up somehow, but the problem kinda went away. I found this out because my cruise control kept kicking off when i changed lanes to the right, haha

If the turn signal bulb is burned out, you will have problems. Make sure you have correct and working bulbs in all locations. Also might want to check the fog lamp wires to make sure they are no grounding.

did somebody say BOOBIES!?!?!?!?

...oh wait. You sneaky bastard.

The turn signals, fog lights, and brake lights are all on separate circuits. Your fog light problem is pretty self-explanatory (you lazy bastard!), and the brake lights are most likely faulty in the wiring. I would look very closely at the wiring at and around the brake light housing connector.

The turn signals do sound like the MFS is faulty, so I would definitely replace it as soon as it gets in and let us know how it goes.

If you aren't familiar/experienced with wiring, and esp. automotive wiring, and you don't have an EVTM handy, I would seriously just take it to a shop. Wiring is wiring; the SHO is no different from any other car in that respect, and don't let anybody tell you otherwise.

Good news, the wiring is all ok. The mfs was bad. It apparently ties into the brake lights, but it seems to only activate the outer bulb brake lights, i'm saying this because when i had the switch out and nothing there i touched the brakes and only the two inner bulbs and the third lit up. Seems like a saftey thing incase the entire switch craps out. Once the new switch was in everything worked fine. Thanks for the help everyone
