What's up.

Background: My '93 has the JBL, a Blaupunkt deck, the OEM interface adapter to incorporate the factory amps, and all the original speakers. At one point, the OEM interface thingy had an internal connection come loose, and I sautered it back together.

Problem: the volume cuts out completely from my left front (door) speaker. This happens when the radio is first turned on, and goes away when I turn the volume way up. Meaning, I can turn the volume up to make the speaker come on and then lower the volume and the speaker will still work fine.

Any ideas? It's either the Blaupunkt, the OEM interface, the speaker, or the amp, right? So, how do I track down where the problem lies?

Thanks for any help you can provide.

Sounds like one of the contacts for that speaker is just barely doing it's job or is corroded. Have you tried swapping speakers to rule that out?

Hey I just posted a very similar concern with my '93' JBL stock system. The left side is out until a turn it way up and/or until the system warms up. Please post feedback on this!!!

I would have to agree with Paul, or the amp may just be going bad.

Personally, when I started having problems with my stock stereo, I just replaced the whole thing.

If it is the Amp, how can one be sure? If so, can one use an aftermarket amp? How many channels should it be?
BTW how can this be troubleshooted to determine where the problem lies?
Thanks all

I would first remove my deck and make sure all the connections are correct and no wire is missing any insulation. If all wires look good then try seeing if it's an amp issue. Your stock amp might be gasping for air on it's death-bed. Try purchasing the bypass kit from either Circuit City or Best Buy and power your speakers directly from your Blaupunkt deck. I'm sure you can figure out how to install this harness; it's pretty simple. If you can't, just ask us and we'll gladly help you.

If this doesn't work I would go back to my original setup and purchase a new set of front speakers.

If neither of the above fix the problem I would ditch the setup and buy a 4 channel amp to power 4 new speakers (or at least 2 new front speakers and a nice 2 channel amp). In the long run you'll save yourself many headaches as well as enjoy clean, powerful sound.

I have the same exact problem with mine, but only sometimes. Sometimes I just jiggle that stupid "innovative" volume ****/fader/whater it is supposed to be and the sound will come back.

I hate that volume switch! It is so stupid and innaccurate! Innovative!?! headbang rant
