I put in an aftermarket stereo about 2 years ago and I just recently got back from school. I come to find that when I put the stereo face on, the power antenna didn't rise and the radio never came on. All the fuses that pertain to the stereo are good, but the only thing that my dad changed when I was gone was the battery. Any idea of what else could possibly wrong? I don't want to drive around with my iPod in my ears....again....

First thing might sound a little out there....
What type of deck is it? My Eclipse deck will not power on if you disconnect it from a constant 12v. It requires a CD that it was originally installed with....

Is the deck completely dead? no lights, no power no nothing?

...I am a little bit experienced in car stereos, but I have installed them myself in all my cars 5 cars.

Maybe pull the deck out of the dash, and probe the Power and ground wires with a test light. Thats what I would do.

Oh yeah be careful listening to you Ipod while driving. It is illegal in most states.

Side note:
Here is how my SHO supports my Ipod..

Ash tray flips up to reveal an Idock plugged into a FM transmiter that uses the antenna wire..
enough of me showing off...

Yeah, the deck is completely dead. There are no lights, but the lights tended to fade after a while for some reason. I guess it was cheap. But now the lights don't even come on/doesn't raise the power antenna. I guess I'll do what you suggest. Thanks.

I would suggest pulling the deck. Check all your Harness connections. Could be just a loose wire that is in there or maybe your ground connection came undone. I had this happen to me about a year ago after I put a brand new deck it. Got a new self taping bolt/screw and tightened it back up and it was back in business. Its hard to say. Depends as well if with your aftermarket deck when it was installed did you run it off the main wires or did you do a direct power from the battery with a toggle? As for the lights diming on you. Maybe it could be the fact that you turned it up quit loud and were drawing more juice from it then it could take. I know with some stereo's that if you crank them way up and you have decent speakers in the car that they will over draw and end up frying out the decks motherboard.

I just got a new battery, so I'm quite sure it's not that. There is no power in the deck at all (no lights) and for that reason, the power antenna doesn't work. Never turned the radio up too loud because I just can't drive like that. Don't like a lot of noise. Best Buy was the one that installed the deck for during some big Christmas sale they had. I guess I'll thoroughly check it when I get back home in a couple of days. Thanks alot you guys.

Big Collins, the interior of your SHO looks good. I like that look.

I don't quite remember exactly, but it's some off brand from Sony. It believe the company is Dual. The brand is XD6320 I think.

If it's a Dual, then just cut your losses and purchase a better brand. They are not very well rated for longevity. How much are you willing to spend on a new one? Check out onlinecarstereo.com and maybe sonicelectronix.com for some deals on better brands. Good luck!

Thanks for the info. I'm looking into either a Pioneer or Alpine now. Most likely Pioneer.
