Guys/ Gals, me and my mechanic are stumped. I recently replaced my tensioner pullies on my 91 Plus, one had seized up on me so I replaced them both, but since I've gotten it back on the road....about 2.5 weeks now....the red "oil" light will glow from time to time. It's not coming on and stayin on, it doesn't even light up all the way...just flickers then goes off. It only happens at lights when I stop or when I'm slowing down, and it doesn't happen all the time...mostly after "spirited" driving. At the same time, I get a distinctive burnt oil smell, but no smoke, no residue, and no tailpipe emmitants. It's occuring more, which lends that there is a problem, but I've had the oil pressure checked, and it's good...sending unit is not registering as faulty, level is good. Another thing has occompanied this...now I've owned this SHO for 5years now, and as long as I've had it, it's burned oil...about a quart every 600-700 miles...but now, it's burning the same amount in about 500 miles or less...I'm adding a quart about every 10days of regular driving. Is this my pump going?....rod bearings?...what? I need to find out before I'm hunting for a replacement engine. Are there any tests I can do to pinpoint the problem? Thanks in advance to all!

I had the same problem in my atx but with no burnt oil smell, the oil light would flicker, sometimes after hard braking to a stop and other times after i was beating on it.

Once i got the rpms up it went away. Anyways i was told rod bearings and im guessing that's your problem, theres a way to test it but i dont know how, im sure someone else will post with that info

That's exactly what's going on with mine...how long did you drive with it like that, and had you had your problem fixed? Thanks

It's 10 minutes, 27mm socket & <$10 for a new pressure sender, easy enough to rule it out.

Bearings / oil pump area delivery / vac leak possible culprits.

i vote for oil pressure sending switch; it's the exact symptoms that happened to two of mine, on two different cars

Went to the local Ford dealership and got the sensor, but where is it located on the engine? Looked for it for about a half-hour then thought of a better idea....ASK! Thanks

The sensor is on the back side of the motor....right at the edge of the block where it meets the tranny. It is pointing towards the firewall, it is very near to the coolant hose coming out the back of the block into the heater core. It it will have one wire coming off of it - the wire will just pull off.

if you have over 130k on your car you need to change your rod bearings before your SHO becomes a parts car.
