Problem installing a 94 radio in a 92 (JBL system) *Solved*

Both radios match up and look the same externally. All electrical connectors are the same in the back. The new radio im trying to install is from my 94 Red SHO - both cars have the JBL audio system.

The new radio gets power and can seek to a channel, however there is no sound at all nor is there sound with the CD player. This 94 unit works perfectly in the 94. I rechecked all connections and even re-installed the old 92 radio back in to confirm that the system is in fact working. Im stumped.

Where should I go from here?

Nobody?

On a side note I fixed the other electrical problem last night. The power seats, power door locks and keyless entry were not working. Turned out to be the 40 A fuse in the Power Distribution Box was blown. I also spent a few hours ridding the car of the junk aftermarket alarm that had been installed by the previous owner. I carefully removed every alarm wire and sealed the various harnesses (or is it harnii?) back up with electric tape to get them back to stock condition. Now I just have to move on to the mechanical problems!

There is no reason that it should not work (as long as you hooked up all the harnesses correctly). I have seen dead tape players that will come on and appear to be working but the pre-amp section is blown so they don't output any sound. That usually happens when the pins in the 6 pin CD loop connecter get shorted together.

After trying in another good radio from a 94 and it still not working, I knew it was something else. I swapped in the amp from the 94 (Part numbers are exactly the same, save the last two letters). Sure enough, it works perfectly. While it may be mental, the sound quality and bass also feel a bit better than with the 92 amp. Well, Im happy. Now I only need to get the damn antennia working.
