Pretty dumb question

Hi i have a 93 ATX and i was just wondering, i know there are amps in the back of the car but, can we actually just swap them out for an aftermarket amps or would you have to re wire the whole entire car again. same goes with speakers and cd player. because i had troubles with that for my mustang mach 460 system. also please tell me where the subwoofer is because if it was located on the left side of the trunk, then its gone in my car

No if you have a sub, there will be a black box under the rear shelf.

The amps are not plug and play with an aftermarket one, that I know of.

There are wiring harnesses for the Head Unit to put in an aftermarket one that will reuse the factory wiring, and speakers.

You could also use a line converter to integrate an aftermarket amp into the existing system.

well yeah the sub is def gone... i am not too familar with a "line converter" i'll have to look that up.

There is another connector that goes to all the speakers behind the head unit that's not used with the JBL system. But trust me, it's still there, and it works great with a cheap Schoche wiring kit for aftermarket H/Us. Just make sure you disconnect the stock amps first. I went through about 6 10 amp mini-fuses on the back of the head unit before I figured this out.

Just FYI, not all cars with premium sound came with the subwoofer. If you don't see a JBL logo on the amp and on the speaker grilles, it's just the standard premium sound system. Bypass it and save yourself the trouble of dealing with the wacky voltage requirements of the Ford amplifiers.
