This is Justins brother... he currently has no internet and his car died so he asked me to post this on here for him... his number is 551-206-6820 if any of you guys can help.

He thinks the problem is with the starter... he pulled into a parking spot and an hour later when he tried to start the car it turned a bit but dies and after that it did not turn at all... there is also no clicking or anything. He knows its not the battery. He has had problems starting in the past (long cranks or multiple attempts to start the car)

he doesn't have internet till wednesday and he is trying to fix this as soon as possible... if any of you guys are in the area and would lend a hand or know a good place to take it either post here and i'll call him or give him a call yourself

thanks for the help

hey i got internet again.. i dont think it's battery, all the ligts and everything electrical comes on no problemo, i was going to try to pop start it, but right now it's in a covered garage, and i havent had time (or help) to roll it back out, and down the driveway into the street. also if it doesnt work, i don't want to have it on the street cause you need street permits. one of my coworkers this summer has a friend who's dad runs a AAA certified shop so she said she'd check to see if he could help me out. details will be posted as they come to me, so far no word from her.

Are you here or NJ? I'm in the middle of packing to move right now... I may be coming to Dan's to help him with his 89. I haven't heard from him since before Carlisle... Will it give you any codes on a KOEO, can you hear the when you turn the key on?

if when you turn the key to on (just before you would try to start), and all the lights work perfectly, then try to start and it doesnt even crank, it is almost garenteed that the starter is tired. you can try tapping the starter with a hammer and then try to start.

Bang the starter with a hammer and then try again. You may need to do it a few times. If you get it running, then you know you need to replace the starter.

That was my next guess, Justin. Borrow a hammer from a neighbor, trade them a beer! ****, use your tire iron even.

thats right you just neew to tap it, with almost anything, a stick will probably do it, although hit it a lil harder

If there is no clicking then the starter solenoid relay is not getting a juice.

Paul, that's not exactly true. I had the same issue and it was the hat on top of the solenoid that was loose. I had a tow truck come thinking I was going to have the car towed home, but he came, moved the hat to it's proper positon, and put a screwdriver between the two points, and BAM it started. So, since it's a lifetime warranty starter, I went to AZ and swapped it. Now, it's doing what it did before, spinning, but not starting. It'll happen once in a while, and sometimes you have to try 2-3 times to get it started. Not sure what it is, but it's annoying.

The relay is what I think you are calling the hat. The click that should be heard is the contacts engaging. Which then allows current to flow though the starter windings.
