Going to an auction in a week. They got a 97 silver sho going through!
Would like to get my hands on it if............
1)There is very little rust
2)The mileage is somewhat low (120,000-150,000)
3)And I can get it for a good price (500-2000)

I will let everyone know what happens.

Trans seems to hold up just as good as any other SHO trans.

I've got no problem with my cams and I know quite a few people on this board don't and won't.

A tiny bit of preventive maintenance and you're set.

351 you have welded your cams right?

These cars once the cams are fixed are no more of a problem than any other 10+ year old car.

I can agree with you on that 100%.

The trans and cams are the two weakest links here on the V-8 SHOs. I'm not sure how to take in your quote here, so correct me if I'm out of line. The SHO trannies can be real bad. Diff pins on the MTXs and the ATX trannies suck in general. And please tell me your cams are welded with your remark to him?!? I know you (and the few people you know) aren't just riding around with unwelded cams are you? And "don't and won't" what???
And the preventative maintenance will always come in handy, as long as you don't get a POS to start off with.

With welded cams they are no problem. They were welded when I bought it. I bought it off a dealer who took the car in on trade. Had a SHOClub sticker under the hood so I took a chance on it as the dealer had no idea when I asked him.

Every SHO owner I've talked to has welded cams sans for one woman who could care less. None of these people are affiliated with this forum so there are cam weld cars out there that aren't regulars or even a member to any sort of SHO group.

As long as you know the problems with the cars and don't ignore them then these are very reliable cars.

I agree with this. The Ford components of the GenIII are generally more reliable than the earlier SHOs. There are weak spots but, if you take care of it, it will run as well as any other good car of that age. My tranny/TC slips a bit at almost 180k but this SHO has never failed to start. Ever.

If you forget to plug all the coil packs in on one bank it'll still fire up and run fairly decent too.

I have about 132k on mimne now. All I've done is the normal stuff. Changed fluids, ball joints, tie rod ends, had saggy ass so I threw on new struts and springs, o2 sensor, and brakes.

The only thing out of the norm is a new torque converter and seal. Everything else are wear items.

If you don't take care of any car things go bad quick. I just don't get why these cars get a bad stigma aside from the cam problem.

Why not find one on flea bay that isn't from the rust belt? If your willing to spend 2 grand on one might as well get a rust free car. Unless you can get it for ultra cheap.
