I have a 94 Atx with 3.2 it has two electrice fans the one on the passenger side seems to work but the one on the driver side I never see turn on at idle. I thinking the car maybe overheating alittle after about 30 mins of driving especially on very hot days here in Florida. As you know on the temp guage it has no temp numbers just says C and H with Normal written inbetween the to with The N and O to the hot side. After about 30 mins or more of driving especially in stop and go traffic the temp guage likes to run up toward the N and O but not to the H for Hot. Is it normal for the SHO's to run this warm. I would love to do away with the electronic temp guage and add a manual temp guage with actual temp numbers on it so I know exactly what the temp of the motor is , but I can't seem to find the sending unit , can anyone tell me where the sending unit is . Oh also once the temp guage gets up to the high side like I stated if I turn the climate control off and get on a good strethc of road where I can drive for a mile or more without stopping the temp will drop back down to about halfway.

Thanks for any help and info

I can tell you that the H is on the upside of 230*....

I would first start by changing the thermostat. Put in what ever you like. Their are a couple avalible. 180, and 192.(or 195, im not sure)

The ATX fans, (dual) are setup different. I cant recall what turns on when. There is an order for which they turn on, and they have a high/low setting as well. I dont think you have a fan problem...

Also, since summer is rolling in, now would be a good time to flush the coolant system, new coolant (and if your like me,and want cooler temps, add some water wetter), new radiator cap, and of course the new tstat.

If you want to check the fans, you could run the KOEO test, and look to see if the both fans kick on.

1: The sending unit is next to the thermostat housing. Just follow the upper radiator hose to the motor, unit is on the left. Hard to tell what your gauge means as far as actual temperature. I have both stock gauge and an aftermarket gauge.

2: Run your codes (click my signature below), the fans should both kick on during the key on engine off diagnosis.

3: How old is the radiator? How fresh is the fluid? What about the thermostat?

The raditor is probably the stock one the fluid is pretty new since I had to change all the houses that run under the intake and throttle body. Thermostat is probably factory aswell. The car will run cool under idle sitting in the yard but once it is actually being driven in stop and go traffic is when it starts running warm. I'll see if I can run these two tests and get some codes

I can't remember when I seen it but I'm going to add a temp guage with actual temp numbers on it to my 94 sho . Few months ago when i was looing through sho parts sites I seen a place where you could get guages that could be installed either on the A piller or in the little compartment under the radio. Can anyone point me to the site that has these especially the one that has the guages that install in the compartment under the radio
