Just because one guy working there made a mistake doesn't mean they don't know what they are doing. I actually talked to them today and the owner told me he wouldn't have let my car leave his shop that way and offered to install a cat with free labor.

The owner should be seeing all cars that leave the shop, especially in cases of illegal modification. At least he's going to take care of the problem.

Should we call the exhaust police and have him locked up for removing cats that people ask him to remove?

The only problem with moving the cats past the merge is operating temperature. The cats need to be a certain distance to the engine in order to heat up and work properly. Also, if you remove the cats the car will run a tad rich.

not nessecarily, many cars do not run a setup like the SHO and run a single, larger cat further down the exhaust in OE configuration

these cars pass emissions, these cars have more HP, these cars work perfectly fine with that setup

just because a SHO has that setup, or you haven't seen something different, doesn't make the other style setups bad.........

it's not that I haven't seen a system like that, nor is it necessarily bad. However, you should take technology into consideration as well. You are working on a 20 year old car per say, verses whatever year car you have in mind here. are you saying ANY cat will work anywhere in the exhaust system? Perhaps there is new technology in an expensive OEM set up that you wont find at BOBS muffler shop, or if you order a Cat from JC whitney. Just a thought.
