We just bought the SHO a little over a week ago, and we discovered the smell of antifreeze. 90% of the time you will only smell burning antifreeze, other 10% it will actually drip on the drive way. And my thermostat isnt working properly, apparently my engine is always cold. Sometimes youll see smoke coming from the hood, which smells like antifreeze also. Anyone have any idea of what the problem is before we take it somewhere to have it looked over?

I just had two leaks...and just bought the car..One was from my bypass hose near the oil filter...its a U Shaped hose, you cant really miss it...The second was below the Throttle Body...going from the water pump up to the block or something below the TB.. I still smell antifreeze burning..but ohwell..hope this helps..

I don;t know if bad thermostat would cause the smell but I don't think it would unless the car was overheating and boiling over. Check your waterpump!!! My 95 had the low coolant light come on about 2 hours after I bought and was told the pump was put on 3 days before. Filled the resevoir and watched it for about a week and had a constant loss of coolant. Pulled the pass. side of the engine apart and found the three 10mm bolts on the water pump were loose, that was 8 months ago. The car has only been driven about a week and a half over the past month and a half becuse of constant issues (what do you expect for 144,000 miles) drove it one day and got the low coolant light again. Checked it out the next day and found the bottom bolt of the 3 10mm ones was broken. Now that the car is being put back together I see that the bastards did not replace the gasket when they put on the new pump. Sorry for the long story but it's first hand experience that may help you out.

This is where all checkbook **** breaks loose. :) With this kind of a problem you really just have to take a good look around to see where that steam is coming from. The waterpump on the SHO is pretty well buired, but if the steam looks like it's coming from the pully side of the engine, you can probably bet your waterpump is leaking. That's a hefty labor charge. If you do it yourself, it could be as cheap as like, $40. But really, you gotta poke around.

Yea its coming out somewhere by the pulleys. My dad has a lot of "car" friends. Unfortunetly, none of them have their own shop, nor the time to fix it for me, but one of them does have a really good freind that owns a shop. and he will probably give us a really good price on the fix.
