Pops out of gear

I just finished my second engine/tranny swap and took her for a test drive. besides the lack of brakes and a CV-joint that was about to fall apart, she ran pretty good. I put a new clutch (with the help of SHOMaster Smithsil) and old tranny in this car. Already installed was the rod-shifter from my old plus. After i put the car in 1st gear, I have to hold it in, or apon engaging, it "pops" out. After engagement, it will stay in gear. Any suggestions? thanks-

Torn motor or tranny mount would be the first thing I'd suspect, next I'd look at the stabilizing shaft of the shifter assembly.

hmm....another stab in the dark- ever had the sway bar out of the car?

did you ever find the motor mount bolts?
