Whenever it is cold outside and I turn my wheels at slow speeds I head a poping noise from the fornt wheels... I remmeber seeing something about his before but can't find it anymore... It sounds like rubber running against something... Is there a part I can buy at Autozone or something to fix the issue or a guide to fix it? Thanks

It is most likely the upper spring pad rubbing against the inside of the top of the strut tower. You can use a silicone grease (Sil-Glyde) in the area of interference or you can install the Motorcraft F3DZ-18A027-A spacer on top of the strut mount to move the spring pad a little farther away from the top of the tower. You have to remove the strut and spring assembly from the car to do this, so you may want to wait for a new strut installation for that step.

In the photo below, you can see the area of the spring pad that has actually worn away on my driver side strut assembly. I do have the spacers installed, but the struts have been moved quite far in the outboard direction to accomodate the Eibach springs and the negative camber that they create. The spring pad is part of the bearing and seal, the Motorcraft F1DZ-3B455-A.

Would this affect ride height at all, even by a very small amount like 1/8 of an inch?? Because after I was in a accident my front left tire started to barly rub on the nut right in the middle of the fender hold the lining in. I thought it was b/c my fender was moved after being hit on the spot b/c before that I had NEVER had runbbing problems. Now after I got it back from the body shop there telling its still rubbing b/c my suspenion couldve moved in the crash or that the side of the suspension has premature wear, but i'm like 1st i have 4x zip ties on the springs(long story about an old problem that was fixed), so the spring would moved it wouldve have broken them.

So now next week there only solution is gonna be buldging both of my fenders(just the lip), but i'm ****** knowing that only one side decides to rub now when both of them never did, is there anything I can have them do to get back to my old rub-free ride? I do have a bit more space between the hood on the drivers side where it rubs could it be it was aligned right and could be moved back up that small amount to get rid of my rubbing?

you could get rid of those huge rims and tires!! Yeah, I know, I can't let that rim size thing go. What size are your tires anyway?

RI-SHO,

You most likely reshaped your fender, but you may also have pushed the subframe to the driver side. This would reduce the clearance to the driver side fender. Unless you bent the upper strut mounting portion of the body outward, that is the only way to move the tire outboard.

The condition I originally described does not affect the ride height, but you can add the Ford spacers on top of the upper strut mount to move the spring pad and tire down from the body.

Ok I recently had the fender fixed, its all in spec compared to the passenger fender, but its still just a bit off, about .15" lower on the drivers side, is this anything I should worry about?

RI, have you had a completele front end alignment done by a reputable shop? I would think that that would point out any subframe alignment problems. And I wouldn't count on the body shop's word. Many of those guys just make it look pretty, collect your dough, and send you on your way.

There you go, a serious non-dick post. Don't get too used to it! wink

Ford no longer supplies the No. 18A027 spacers. However, they should be fairly easy to fabricate. Does anyone have a diagram showing shape, thickness and bolt circle ?

Thanks,
