V6 1989 Ford Taurus SHO. Car surges , RPM’s rev up and down, stalls, cuts off when driving, to make a long story short. I took it too ford and they told me I need a crank shaft positioning sensor, water pump and a timing chain. Is there anybody in the Charlotte NC area who knows how to repair these problems? PLEASE HELP. This is the only car I have to get me back and forth to work. My personal email is [email protected] if anyone can help. I hope the crank shaft positioning sensor, water pump and timing chain are the problems. It’s a common problem from what I'm told. Antifreeze leaks on the sensor and causes the car problems. PLEASE HELP. My Phone number 201-522-6647

I think he said its an 89 car.If it is its the mixed into the wrong section. If its an 89 that sounds right for the symtoms and poss camsensor also.Good luck on the repair.

They replaced the cam sensor, MAF sensor and the barometric pressure sensor. It didnt stop the problem. So I had them take the new barometric pressure sensor, MAF sensor and the cam sensor off, and told them to put my old parts back on because that didnt fix the problem. I havent herd the "cam sprockets slippin and ready to spin". They said I might as well get the chain replaced since its by the crank sensor. The check engine light never comes on either.

First, you'd get a better response by posting this in the right forum.

Second, pull your codes and get back to us. This will give you a starting point.

lol @ wrong forum.

Anyway, somebody at the ford dealer knows their stuff, with the singular exception of calling the timing belt a chain, unless you did that. But yes, they're most likely correct. This is a common failure on SHOs, and yeah, it can be kind of difficult to repair if you don't have prior mechanical experience.

I'm too far away but if you post in the Tidewater SHO club page there are people near there that may very well be able to help you out.
