So Ive been having issues with my car not working at proper voltage unless I rev the engine over 4000 RPM's. The other day, I was charging my battery to make sure Im not having issues, so I took off the charger, jumped in the car, lights came on etc, and went to turn the key.

Heard the pump prime, then went to turn her over..... nothing.

Not even a click. No crank. Nothing. IF the battery was low, wouldnt it at least TRY and turn? Also what about the starter? Could that be it? Someone please, please help.

You can try to jump start it, hooked to another car to see if you have enough voltage at startup, and go from there.

Generally, if the fuel pump turns on but you don't get a click or turnover or anything, that means one of two things - either the battery is lé dead, or your battery terminals are either loose or cracked.

As far as the charging thing goes, that means one of the three diodes in the alternator went out, and it needs a rebuild.

Tried a fresh battery. No luck. Im thinking a weak starter or bad leads. Ill check back after more work.

I'd check the battery cables first. If they check out fine then maybe a bad starter solenoid? What year is your SHO?

Its a 93 ATX. Ill check the cables like you suggest. Ive been wanting to run newer cables because of how oxidized they look. The positive cable looks like a PITA to work with tho.

It's not too bad. There are a few attachment points - little metal arms that wrap around it - but once you get those undone (just unbend them) it's a pretty straight shot from the battery to the starter lug. The other cable goes from that starter lug to the alternator B+ terminal.

Those two and the negative cable from the starter housing attachment to the battery are what is known as the "big three". I would replace all of them, and possibly the cable that runs from the starter to the engine compartment fuse box, but that isn't generally as big a deal.

Yay! New Starter and Alt fixed it. I also ran and loomed new power and ground wire. Thing starts like a champ and holds voltage correctly!
