Hello,

I don't know if this forum is active but I thought I would try. I bought the SHO Wagon (look on sho trader for details) and I was wondering if anyone would know if I would have any trouble plating it in CA? It is coming from OH and I live in Monterey but I have never had to worry about plates here - I have not lived here long and both cars I have now were originally CA cars. Will the CA DMV have an issue with this car as it was originally a sedan and is now a wagon? If it is too much hassle, I have other options I can persue.

You will have to make sure your wagon is capable of passing CA smog. If the vehicle is not equipped with EGR you will have to find an intake manifold with EGR either at a junkyard or from a member here, or manage to create one. There will probably be an extra fee for registering an "out of state vehicle" but it's not super $.

When you get the car go and insure it and get a temp tag (go in at the beginning of the month and you'll get one that expires the end of the following month) then worry about smog.

We'll it's a 92 sedan basically. Should have the EGR I would think. It's got custom exhaust, so I'm a little worried...

You DO NOT need to change the manifold, I just registered a car that was from MA, brought to AZ, sold to some one in CA and never registered, then purchased by me. All they needed was the vehichle to be present for a VIN verification.

I know this is off the subject but are there any sho mechanics in here in or close to the bay area. I would rather have somone who knows shos work on my car than bring it to a mechanic who doesnt know sh*t and thinks its a regular engine.
As for doing the work myself I am inclined but these days i dont have the space time or tools do do any of the work.

That is not true. Any MTX SHO that was not originally sold in CA does not have a EGR Valve. When I lived in California, I owned two different SHO's that were both purchased out of state and did not have a EGR Valve. Neither of these cars had issues with smog or registration, One of them was even had a SHOshop Y-Pipe on it (Catted).
