Going to be ordering a 12 soon and wanted to know if the Goodyear tires that come with the performance pkg are useless in the snow and ice? I want the 20's and better axle ratio but not liking the "summer" tires. Any thoughts?

Summer tires have rubber compounds that harden in cool temps and just don't work in the winter, with or without snow.

Either negotiate with your dealer to switch the summer tires to a set of A/S, or buy some extra wheels with winter tires. Check out TireRack's winter wheel/tire packages for an idea of what it would cost you to do the latter.

Like all summer tires, they are not intended to be driven in near-freezing temperatures, through snow or on ice.

I live in northern In. ,snow capitol on In. Picked up my 2010 SHO on Jan.2010 with pp,2 days later our area was hit with 6 " of snow. We had went to town that morn. and did not think we were going to make it back home. (live 5 miles from town in the county. ). Ordered a set of Michilens that same day.Goodyears suck in the winter,.

What I did was told the dealer that my SHO purchase "HINGED" on their parts department getting the EXACT wheels I wanted from Tirerack.com at THEIR wholesale cost.....no tax, no markup.....and they did, some dealerships wanted to send me to "their boy's" part shop....but stand your ground it should be in the area of 400 bucks less than tirerack.com

Winter wheels and tires shouldn't cost more than $1,400. I paid $1,200 for mine and they work awesome in the snow.

How are you guys that changed both wheels and tires to a winter pkg. deal with the sensors in the wheels? I think they're the tpms for air pressure. Which size tire did you get? I want to be close to the overall diameter so the speedo is still accurate.

For anyone in a cold climate who wants performance, two sets of wheels/tires are the ONLY way to go. All-season tires should be called "no-season tires".

A good set of summer and winter tires not only improving cornering, but also have better wet performance, and better braking in both dry & wet conditions.

Just want something other than the summer tires in the winter and still keep the pp. I'm going to see what the dealer can do and if that does not work I'll get a tire/wheel package. From what I have seen I will need to deal with the tpms and the tires I have seen in the wheel/tire packages are not exactly the same overall diameter as the Goodyear F1's.

As long as they're the same 245/45R20 as the F1 tire, they will work just fine and not screw up your speedo.

The TPMS system is a bit of a pain, but you can run without them, the dash light or info center will just keep telling you that you have a low tire, if you can deal with that. It won't hurt anything, just be annoying. It's a gov't mandated thing since 2007.

I ended up finding a set of 18" Blizzacks on craigslist for $150.00, a set of take off 18" 2010 Mustang GT rims with sensors $400.00, the feeling of real traction in ice and snow, priceless. lol

If you do a search you will see some posts on here about winter tires, and the sizes will be there as well. I went with an 18" wheel and a taller tire so I was as close to factory as possible. I didn't put the sensors on, and yes the light and chime will get annoying. Doesn't hurt anything though.

I wonder if that error message could be eliminated with the SCT device...

The SCT won't remove the TPMS light, only the fault codes associated with the PCM.

No, they are the Michelins. IIRC, the std 19's are the GY RS-A's

I would NOT recommend the RS-A's. They tend to wander when they are installed on my Brick. To quote my TireRack specialist, Mason Rush... they are a good $50. tire that costs 3-4 times that!

Ok good.. we are going to the dealer tomorrow to place an order. No word yet on if they will swap the tires so we will see. I have only been on this forum a short time and I'm already loving it..
