Well it turns out one of the guys on the Festiva Boards writes tech for Ford !\
He updated the pins

1 B+ ( battery positive ?) correct

2 power steering pressure switch ( leave open ) correct, if not using P/S

3 VSS ( attach ) correct vehicle speed sensor. one of two wire connected to the speed sensor on the transaxle

4 iginion diaognositc monitor (?) connects to pin 12 of the Ignition Control Module

5 brake on off ( leave open) no. connect to brake lamp circuit

6 VSS- ( attached) see pin 3^

7 ECT -engine coolant temp ( attached) correct. other pin of ECT connects to SigRTN (pin 46, signal return)

8 not used correct

9 MAF return ( attached ) correct

10 a/c clutch ( not using) leave open

11 speed control ( not using ) leave open

12 fuel inj ( attached) #3 inj the other pin of all inj goes to pin 24 of the CCRM

13 fuel inj ( attached) #4 inj

14 fuel inj ( attached) #5 inj

15 fuel inj ( attached) #6 inj

16 ign ground ( attached) correct. connects to O/R of CKP, CMP and pin 7 of the Ign Mod

17 data link ( ?) connects to ground side of Check Engine lamp, also the output wire (STO) for the diagnostic connector

18 octain adj ( ?) leave disconnected, unless you have serious spark knock issues, then ground it.

19 fuel pump monitor (?) connects to pin 5 (PK/BK) or the CCRM, which also powers the fuel pump.

20 case ground ( attached) correct

21 IAC ( attached) correct. the other pin connects to pin 24 of CCRM

22 low speed fuel pump relay ( attached to ccrm) correct pin 18 of ccrm

23 knock sensor ( attached) correct. other pin connects to SigRTN, pin 46 of PCM

24 cmp ( attached) camshaft sensor. connect to dark green wire

25 air charge temp ( attached) correct. other pin connects to SigRTN, pin 46

26 referance voltage (?) VREF, reference voltage (+5v) for all sensors

27 egr feed back ( not using) not used on 49-state engines, Calif only

28 speed control command switch ( not using) ok

29 o2 1 ( attached) correct. bank 1, cyl 1, 2, 3

30 clutch pedal ( attached) correct. other pin is connected to pin 46 of PCM

31 canister purge ( attached) correct. other pin connected to pin 24 of ccrm

32 imrc ( attached) Intake Manifold Runner Control. connect to IMRC solenoid. Other pin of solenoid connects to pin 24 or ccrm.

33 egr regulator ( not using) not used on 49-state engines, Calif only

34 not used correct

35 speed control vent solenoid ( not using) ok

36 spark out put (?) Spark Out (SPOUT) connects to pin 5 of Ign Mod, thru a shorting connector (removed to check timing)

37 power ( attached) Ignition power. Must be hot in Start and Run

38 not used correct

39 speed control ground ( not using) ok

40 power ground ( attached) correct. connect to battery negative, not chassis ground

41 power and control module two high-speed fuel pump ( attached to ccrm) correct. pin 18 of ccrm

42 not used correct

43 o2 2 ( attached) correct. bank 2, cyl 4, 5, 6

44 not used correct

45 barometric absolute pressure ( attached) correct

46 signal return (?) also called SigRTN. Computer ground for sensors

47 throttle position sensor ( attached) correct

48 sti connector (?) Self Test Input. Grounded to start code output

49 o2 sensor ground ( attached) correct

50 maf sensor ( attached) correct

....

5 brake on off ( leave open) no. connect to brake lamp circuit

....

What does pin 5 provide? Why does the PCM need a brake signal?
