I just picked up a coolant reservoir for my 92 MTX from the JY becuase my old one finally gave out and no amount of tape could help but anyways it looked good at the time but when I got home I found out it had a very small crack on the bottom. It's not even a crack it is where the line on the bottle where the two sides meet and join and now it seperated alittle. I was just going to use a tire patch and some rubber cement, but is there anyway to prevent the seperation of the two side of the bottle or some kind of reinforcement? I would like to prevent this bottle from falling apart because I had a heck of a time finding a good replacement for cheap. Thanks and I think might help other MTX owners who have crappy reservoirs.

I uesed JB weld in a pinch on a reservoir one time and it lasted all summer and would have gone longer had i not broke it by doing something else.

There is a new 2-part epoxy called plastic weld. I found it at Kmart. It should also be available at hardware stores.

I used it to put a smashed header panel back together.

Is the coolant reservoir SHO specific? My dad has a '94 3.0L Taurus and it has a different reservoir then on my bro's '94 SHO.
If it's not SHO specific what else does it come in so I can find it in the Junkyard.
thanks

i'll probably have an extra one lying around if nothing works in the next week. lemme know if you need it. FWIW I have found the two-parts epoxy kits you can buy at home depot(cant remember the name right now) have worked well holding plastic parts together for me. worth a shot for $5

We used what looked like a glorified soldering gun called a "plastic welder" in auto tech. The plastic welder was used to mend pieces together, fix holes in bumpers etc. The plastic welder and the equivalent of a welding rod but in plastic. Feed the stick with your hand melt with the plastic welder. I wonder what the difference in temp between the two is (soldering gun and plastic welder).

I think the reservoir is polyethylene. If it is, adhesives will work poorly. Assuming it's a minor crack, you can close it by dragging a soldering iron tip along the crack to melt it back together.

the MTX is not sure about the ATX however.

on mine i used quicksteel which is a fast hardening 2 part epoxy and let it sit over night. then followed with a coat of double bubble 2 part epoxy. i haven't had a problem yet. i know it's a temp fix but it seems to be holding pretty well.

Take a dremel tool to the split area..make a little V-groove following the split..get a stick of Ptex from a ski/snowboard/wakeboard shop and light it up..just dribble the hot plastic into the grove...works like a champ..you can get colors to closely match. I find it hold much better than any epoxy I've tried and much cheaper..a stick of Ptex is only a couple of bucks..lol
