Hey there... I had a problem with a little gassy smell coming from the front of my ride, so I read a few posts about that & decided to bypass the purge valve ( the valve between the throttle body and charcoal can). Now there's a constant draw through the char can into the intake. My questions........What are the possible bad side effects of this? Too rich, bad emissions etc. What do you think..... Thanks.

You essentially just created a vacuum leak, so you're probably running lean and may have some minor drivability issues as well. You need to find a good valve to install.

Just cap the port on the intake. Remove the canister, and purge valve. On the bottom of the core support, remove the tee and fish out the orifice. Now the tank will vent to the atmosphere. There is also a restriction at the fuel tank end of the vent line if you wanted to remove that one too.

This is a source of frustration on track cars. The fuel tank is drained by the pump faster than the vent can relieve the pressure. The pressure forces fuel up the inlet in left hand turns and causes us black flags for spilling fuel

I ran my old 89 for many months with a drilled-out CANP valve.

Never noticed any drivability issues, plus, I had a well-vacuumed canister when I did finally replace it with one from the junkyard.
