Need a little help with a hose

This hose, what is it? I notice that if I drive for prolonged periods of time (like over an hour) it'll get real flat, and I imagine lets less air through. What could I do to fix this? Please diagnose my problem.

upper radiator hose. if its collapsing, your cooling system needs to be inspected. replace the hose, but prepare for another hose to blow.

Before you get to thinking the engine has problems. Grab the hose while the car is cool and squeeze it. If it is very soft and spongy feeling it really needs replaced and the hose is the problem. If the hose is stiff there is other problems but I would still swap that hose and probly be looking at the thermostat to be possibly sticking.
That hose is the upper radiator hose.........

you may need to replace your radiator cap, which releases positive pressure fom heating and also relieves negative pressure (by sucking coolant from the overflow resivor).

but definitely replace your hoses and check or replace your thermostat

A faulty thermostat is the reason for the collapsed upper radiator hose.

The pump is pulling suction on that side ofthe system, but the thermostat is not opening to allow flow.

Are these things I can just pick up at autozone, or do I have to order SHO specific parts off the internet?

With the correct 16 pounds of pressure on the system, the hose should never collapse. There is a recirculation path for the flow when the thermostat is closed. Otherwise, every time you start a cold engine, the hose would flatten. Replace the radiator cap and you be okay.

If the coolant temperature is not being controlled within the thermostat's rated range as checked with an external measurement device, the t'stat will also have to be replaced.
