I finally got in my Optima Yellow Top last night and painted a couple of parts. I think I like the change in the color of the plastic cover, I didnt like the contrast between the gray and the body color very much. What do ya think? The pics arent the best sorry....

What did you use to fill in the letters? Model paint? My engine cover color scheme is the same except I'm doing the "SHO" in red.

I painted mine black metallic, it really sparkles in the sunlight and matches the car better now. Here's an idea, how about a clear or smokey Lexan hood to show off the snakes? :D

From what I had heard, I didn't think it was possible to get an optima battery in our Gen III SHO's? What modifications did you have to make to get in in there? Just curious, do you have the part number for the battery? Oh yeah, the cover looks sharp!

Has anyone ever painted the snakes as snake heads? I think that'd be pretty bad ***..

I'm going to spray mine black, but leave it OEM color on the letters. Krylon Fusion and some painters tape should do just fine..

It took me about 2 day to get the whole thing completed. I like it more and more every time I see it now. I wanted to get paint to match the T. Red of the car for the letters but I havent found anyone who will send a Aerosol can overseas. I think I will probally redo it this winter to make it look a little better but it will work for now. Thanks for all the great comments guys, it is appreciated. :thumb:

The Optima battery was actually smaller than the battery that was in there before. The part number is Optima Yellow Top 3478DT. The only thing that I dont like is the terminals are a little smaller than normal and I put gold connections on last night and they didnt sit as well as I would have liked. But overall it is very nice :thumb:

Here are some pics when the engine was clean.

By the way, did you use a high temp paint on that? And which temp was it?

It was engine paint but I am not sure of the Temp rating because it is Italian paint. I never thought of painting the intake too, that looks awesome. How is your paint holding up?

Yeah I used a High Heat paint rated at 500 degrees on both the cover and the intake. The cover in holding up nicely the intake not so lucky, the paint is starting to flake on the sides. so I'm going to do it over with the 1500 degree temp rating and hopefully that will hold up better.

I just bought some High Heat paint rated at 1500 degrees. Do I need to primer the cover first before I spray? Any suggestions?
