After waxing and noticing lots of little chips in the clear coat on the front of my car, I'm strongly thinking about applying a PPF, such as Avery Nano Fusion.

Anyone else using this, or any other brand of PPF?
Any experience on applying it yourself?

My friend has the 3M kit on his M5 and he is very happy with it. 3M makes great products so I would feel safe with using theirs.

The paint durability on this car really sucks and especially for a car that was bragged about how durable the paint is on TV.

I have the complete 3M setup. It was about $370 just for the material. They wanted $800 for the material and installation. I found it a little difficult to install alot of pulling and stretching. The hardest part was the whole front bumper is one giant piece, kind of intimidating but it went alright. My only complaint is that it is peeling up in two small spots on the roof by the windshield and two small spots under the passengers headlight. I would tend to believe that it is peeling because I applied it to close to the edge of the body panels and did not catch it soon enough to tack it back down. If needed I do know that you can get replcement pieces for any that need to be replaced without purchasing a whole new kit.

I have a full 3m set still sitting in my garage. I was going to put it on last fall, but got lazy and then it got too cold out. Now I have a bunch of rock chips so it seems pointless. Now i'm trying to decide if I should sell it for $125 with the squeegee or not. I thought I paid $189 for the kit, but can't remember. If I recall it has the hood, front bumper, fenders, top front of the roof, and mirrors.

We put clear car armor on ours. It does seem to stop the chipping and still looks good after a year. It does not look good after driving through the touchless car wash, requires hand rubbing.

results...

Finally got the pictures, just as it started to rain...
I used the Avery Nano-Fusion PPF. I had read it was the 'easiest' to put on for 'do-it-yourself'. If that was easy, I'd hate to use something else, ha. It took me about 4 hours and was not 'easy'.
After getting it on, I noticed a defect in the material that goes down the hood and bumper. It is visible if you are really inspecting it. It looks like a thickness change in the material in two pencil width 'lines'. I emailed the company and they offered to replace it, but, I'd have to mark it, then peel it off. I'm debating that option as it would be hours and hours of more work. The camera doesn't really pick it up.
Other than the line, I'm really please with the appearance. You cannot see the material when viewing from the front of the car. You can, however, see the line when viewing from back to front.
Supposedly it will protect the car from chips/wear, but, allow normal paint fade. So, in 5 years or so, I can peel it off and the front should be like new (that's my goal anyway).
It's a lot of work, but, if you want it and have the time, I'd recommend it.

Nice job Mark! We can only see a line on the second pic... cool! Hours and hours... ouch! I don't have that time and patience, so I might end up having a pro install it for me. I ordered from Lamin-X the clear bumper guard and the bug shield protection. I asked my guy who installed the tinted light covers and he told me he didn't like ot install those clears as it is very hard and they don't forgive much... I'll see if I can find someone to do it for me not too expensive. In the mean time, I am negociating with my Ford dealer for a front bumper repaint and trunk «step». Since I bought a used car, they were already damaged and would like them to look like new before installing the clears.
Anyway, good job once again!
Steve
