I have been considering doing some cosmetic touch ups. The paint on my car is excellent, with many stone chips on the hood and front bumper. I can live with the chips on the hood for now, but the bumper is really bad. I am worried that if I repaint the bumper, the color will not match in a year or two and it will look worse than what is there already. The car is red. Any opinions?

Painting the bumper is a little different than the metal body panels. There is an elasticity agent added to the paint that goes on the polyurethane bumpers to allow it to flex without chipping. A good shop should be able to match the color and the elasticity, but it won't be cheap and easy like grabbing a can of touch-up paint at the auto parts store.

They have a computer that scans your current color, then tells you how to mix the match to it.

I would suggest doing the hood along with the bumper. It will be cheaper than doing them separately at one point. It will also blend the new paint in better with the old.
