I ran 225 60 16's more often than not. Eagle RS/A's were easy easy easy to find a few years ago considering they are Impala Police car tires... :) Kinda like the +4's on the Crown Vics back in the day. I think I drove around a few years after high school in my 91 on $25 tires.

Ecsta ASTs lasted a decent while on mine when I had it driving aggressively on asphalt and hardpack dirt road for what it's worth. Gen 1 lightly modded with eibachs and sensatracs and some other stuff.

I burned through a set of Falken Ziex ZEs that seemed to hold up good too.

I also burned through a set of Hankook V rated tires faster than I cared to @ just under $400 for all four.

if I still had my SHO and still had slicers on it I'd probably get a set of Falkens again for just daily driving around town/ occasional crappy weather. the few times I drove in rain/wet conditions in AZ they seemed capable enough until I wore through the tread.

My buddy Matt is running the Kumho Ecsta's 225-55-16 with stock suspension and they are a nice fit, they're the same height as stock but just a bit wider. And if they're withstanding his driving (which they are) they're good tires. They grip well too.

I have 225 60 16's on my 95 with slicers. Those seem to be a common size people run on those wheels as well.

Off topic, but if you wanna know a weird size tire-- those for the15" basketweaves, stock size 215 65 15 and mine have 225 65 15. Talk about limited selection.

I have a set of Ecsta SPT's on slicers in 225/55/16... I wish I had gone with the stock size. Steering response was crap thanks to the squishyness of tires.

looks like I'm going with the falken ziex 512, they're 93 each before my discount at a local tire place. thats in a 215 55 16, the 225 60 is 30 dollars more a piece which made up my mind real quick.

I also plan on going with Falken Ziexs on my 89; seem to be an ok tire from what I've heard and they're not expensive.

sears had the 225-60-16s listed @90 I think.

that mighta been 912s though, let me look and see.

yeah, they were the 912s at sears for 91 a piece.

having run General Exclaim UHPs on both of my cars, I think I'll be sticking with them for a while. They've worn well aside from alignment issues, and even with some inside shoulder wear, turn-in's still sharp on my 95. Not only that, but they handle snow and ice better than most all-seasons I've used in the past.

oh yeah...less than $800 mounted and balanced at Tire Rack for both cars.

About how many miles do you have on your !UHPs? I've had them for about 1.5 years now, probably about 15k miles, and they're beginning to show indicator strips. I have never tracked the car...and just wondering what you normally get out of them.

It seems that the 512s are being replaced with the 912s which look exactly like the lower grade 502s if you ask me, The 512s are pretty hard to come by now, except online

Anything wider than 215 -225 , the sidewalls will begin to have the "balloon" effect. The stock slicer rim is not wide at all to accommodate wider tires.

Even with 225 you can notice it.

It not dangerous or anything , it will just look odd. (lets say you put on 235.)

Ran 225/60r16's for 4 years on my sable with sho chromies. Even without figuring the speed/odor variance that thing got 29mpg......lol. I always had bridgestone g009's though, they'd last forever too....lol

OK, guess I have to chime in as the "Make The Tires Match The Rim" guy!!

I know that 215 are not as common as before, and I can understand that 225s can be easier/cheaper to find.

But, there's no reason to do that except to save a few $$$. Not like 225s or 235s look better (it's a damn TAURUS, for chrissakes!!). And the original 215s were marginal with the 6" rims.

From a performance, or even gas mileage, standpoint, you gain nothing by going to a wider tire.
