I bought a 94 MTX that was towed due to rad leak and left sit for a couple of years. The fan and fan shroud was covered with a white substance. I changed rad and fan (from parts car) and fan fuse and thought I had my problem fixed until I left it idle for about 10 minutes-when I came back the coolant was steaming and oil was bubbling out near plug wire. Does anyone know why my fan won't turn on? I am wondering if the engine has been severely overheated and may be toast--although it still runs fine now except for fan problem.

Check the fan motor by running a hot wire off the battery to the fan. If you get nothing you fan motor is junk. As far as the engine being junk, I doubt that. I overheated mine to the point it siezed! That was 75K ago and it still runs like a rapped ape and has no leaks!!!

Thanks Maddog11, the fan motor runs when I connect it directly to 12v source, however it still will not click on when engine is hot (overheating). The fuse is good and the connection is good. What should I check next? or do all SHO's run hot when at idle.

I also have a 92MTX and I notice at idle the temp guage goes way up but it has'nt boiled over like my 94.

When I checked my 92's fan it ony has a 2 prong connector as opposed to my 94's 3 prong fan motor connector. Thus, part interchangeability may be an issue if I want to swap 92 parts into my 94.

If the fan runs when hot wired then it is either the ECT sensor or the CCRM where the fan relay is.

You could try giving the CCRM a solid whack when the engine is hot and the fan should come on. If it does then it's the relay in the CCRM.

Or try turning one the A/C. The fans should come on at idle when the A/C compressor is running. If the fan does not come on this narrows it down to the CCRM. You could also see if there is 12V+ on the Tan and Orange wire going to the CCRM when the temp is up and the fans should be on. This is the signal coming from the PCM to turn on the fan.

This is the same problem as with my 1992 sho

I have the same issue... I haven't tested the fan motor.. .but I believe it to be the ccrm.

Mine has obviously been replaced once as it has a 1999 year built sticker on it.

I heard that to make sure you have the correct ccrm for your car you have to make sure that the BIG LETTER on the sticker matches the factory unit.

Since this is at minimum the 2nd ccrm on the car... how can I tell what the correct unit is? ( I want to go junkyard hunting for one... will other regular tauri have a compatable unit??)

BTW... what letter is on any of your ccrm's... year of car and letter please.

The code on my 1992 MTX is F1DF-12B581-BA. I found that the fan on my 92 was dead so I took one out of my 94 MTX (parts car) cut the 3 prong connector and repalced it with my 92--2 prong connector wired to the high speed wire. Now my 92 keeps nice and cool-may be too cool as the temp guage barely gets into the normal zone-but I'll wait for summer before I change anything else.
