Did it start happening when you replaced the stock t-stat for the 160 thermostat?
I've had the 160 thermostat for nearly a year and this problem just started 2 weeks ago. I leave the unleashed V30 tune loaded at all times and the car has been flawless for the entire time. The temp gauge has very quick fluctuations and the heater will not blow hot air out of the vents although the temp gauge is in the middle of the sweep. If I keep it in the Revs with select shift the heater blows hot. For starters I'm going to put the stock MAf back in and pull the tune and see what happens. If no joy, then re-load the V30 tune with the 2.5 MAF and swap out the 160 thermostat with my stock one.

Here's an update, pulled the tune, still indicated hot, pulled the $45 thermostat that came with the tune and put in a 180 degree from Oreilly's. Problem gone. The $45 thermostat that I pulled out is the exact same manufacturer as the $7.99 180 degree "Murray" brand from Oreilly's. As you can see from the photo, says "MOTORAD" on both.

are they truly identical in all respects? most often, standard tstats are modified. even the reische ones, to provide the different opening temps. have you done the boiling water test to confirm that the 160f tstat is defective? of course the fact that at ots tstat works is pretty good evidence lol.

hope you can return it for a refund or get it replaced.

I didn't say the thermostats were identical, I said they are both from the exact same manufacturer.
