Fuel pump might have went. Next time you see the car make sure you can hear the fuel pump when you turn the key to the ON position. Do you or the owner know if it is throwing any codes?

Thank you I knew I was leaving something else out. I'm not sure if theres any codes right now i just quickly looked at it. I know for a fact he has no clue he doesn't really know to much about cars at all. Thats why I'm probably just going to buy this as a project I know it needs a decent amount of work. All he did was have a 60k upper and front a while ago he showed me the papers on it from the mechanic. He figured he should do that because his buddy told him he should.

Another easy way to check for fuel is to depress the valve core of the fuel rail test valve. Fuel should shoot out very, very hard while cranking. Like 4-6 feet. It should, at the very least, hit the hood. If it doesn't, you have low fuel pressure.

An easy way to test for spark is to remove the plug and wire from one of the front cylinders. Reconnect wire and plug, rest threads of plug on the intake (make sure the tip isn't touching anything). Crank. Do you see a spark? (FYI, you can zap yourself pretty easily doing this. It won't **** you, but whatever gets zapped will be numb for a while. Think tazer...)

If you have a timing light, you can just hook it up to the #1 wire at the plug and check for both spark and timing all at the same time.

it could also be the valve cover gaskets i had the same problem.... Oil leaks into the spark plug tubes and grounds out the spark plugs

I would stay away from one that's overheating, because you could be in for warped heads, leaking head gaskets, etc. that don't necessarily show up right away. Unless you are wanting to do a complete engine rebuild ($$$), I'd keep looking.

test compression to rule out head gaskets. If you buy the car, count on a complete front and upper 60k.

check under the car to see if the little plastic strip that attaches to the subframe is missing. If it is, you just got yourself a good deal. If that strip is missing, not enough air will be deflected into the radiator (you seriously think that little hole in the middle provides enough air?) and it will overheat like a champ.

Also, check to make sure the fans are coming on when you turn the A/C on. If they aren't coming on, then it's usually either a CCRM or a bad fan motor(s). Either way, it's a cheap easy fix.

Other than that, yeah - it's probably a head gasket. But, take solace in the fact that those are very rare on the SHO motor. I've heard of less than a half dozen going bad...

if the AC is toast (very likely) then the fans will not come on when you hit the A/C. If the car overheats, it won't take long for it to get hot enough for the fans to come on. This way you can be sure the fans work when they are supposed to.

I agree...probably NOT a head gasket...it MIGHT just be low on coolant.

first of all a fuel pump has nothing to do with overheating maby a water pump or a thernmostat of the cooling fans not turning on you might want to take the thermos tat out and check it in some boiling hot water if it opens it is good if not there is your issue

Protip: the OP was not about overheating, it was about a fuel-related issue. He changed his original post.
