Audiobahn a cheap Walmart like brand? Whats a good speaker manufacturer these days?
Need to replace the speakers in my 93 but don't want to fork out mucho coin. Combo I'm looking at right now only comes up to 110$ (too cheap?).
I have the JBL system in it now, cd player/woofer/amp combo deal. Dont really want to change AMPS & stuff but at a later date will replace woofer w/explorer match I read somewhere....
Oh, after some searching I came to the conclusion 5.25 in thr front doors & 6x8 in the rear deck, correct?

Audiobahn blows.

There's lots of good speaker brands, but you need to buy what sounds good to you.

Go to a stereo shop and listen to all the different speakers to find what you like best.

The front are 6.5" and the rear are 6x8. I put some lighting audio speakers in mine for the drive home because I needed some tunes for the 12 hour road trip. As for what brands, Pioneer speakers sound good I had the cheaper 6x8 in my Contour. I have all Kenwood in my SLO and they sound great but I did spend about $350 just on the speakers. I would have to go with Kelvin and say go listen to them and see what you like the best. Don't let the sales people try and push you into something you don't like, and try to get them to knock the price down. Most shops will knock some money off if you put them in yourself.

I have clarion 6.5s up in front and pioneer 6x8s in the rear running through my 3700MP Pioneer deck. The sound is excellent compared to some other systems I've heard, and my whole set up cost only about $230

Damn I wanted to skip the whole store thing and just come home one day and they were sitting on the porch......Pop em in & done deal.
I want loud & clear with regular bass, no crazy trunk shaking bass. What wattages are good? I also read/searched that with the stock amp combo I should go with a 2 way speaker? What does full range mean? Maybe I should just leave it alone :frown:?

Pioneer

Have a look around there

A full range speaker will play the bass mids and highs, but they don't sound as good as a component set.

How much does the stock JBL amp put out?

They key thing to do, as I know it's not a lot, will be to buy speakers based on that, after choosing a brand. First off, I personally would just leave the backs out, there is no reason for them, other then destroying sound stage and pleasing passengers (who cares about them, they don't drive it every day).

What ever the JBL amp puts out, try to match the Max RMS (not peak, peak means ****), or even buy some thing that is of a little lesser rating. Also try to find some thing with a high sensivity rating, they will be a little louder at the same power. Be careful when judging sensivity ratings. some people make like 87.9 at 2.84v or some are at 1v, it varies, it's a scheme in most cases.

If you decide to go with front speakers only (hey is the JBL capable of bridgin? the amp? that'd broden the choices a lot), then you can get better speakers with the money you have.

They are but I have heard them and for that price you are getting your moneys worth. I am a big Kenwood nut by the way, but for $60 you can't realy go wrong.

There are 5 1/4's in the front like she first suspected. You can easily fit 6.5" by cutting the mounting plate out. I have done this in 3+ Taurus' and SHO's.

The rear is 6x8 also.

I'll add some more when I got more time.

Some 6.5" speakers fit and some don't. It depends on the size and shape of the basket.

Just because you listen to speakers in a store does not mean you have to buy there.

I've been very impressed by the Elemental Designs eDi 6000s (edesignaudio.com). You will not be dissappointed with them, although you may want to add a small amp to power them.

Another speaker to look at is the CDT CL-6X. I have the component version of this speaker, and it is great for the money. http://www.thezeb.com/p-CDT-Audio-CL-6X-6-1-2-inch-Full-Range-Speakers-101087.htm

CDT is a very high quality brand for a great price. Probably much better than anything you'll find in a store in the same price range.

Just a quick side note........if you can't find 6x8s, 5x7s fit just as well.........I've got a pair of Boston Pro SL-60 components up front with Eclipse clearence rack Coaxial 5x7s hangin off the package shelf, and the sound is spectacular.
