Most companies that offer really high end stuff have lower end stuff to, which is affordable, and worth using... You know compared to liars and expensive crap.

jl stuff IS really good but expensive and the thd ratings were the same on the boxes... less than .01 thd. but when i tested there was more SQ fatigue with the jl amp.
and i gaurentee if you were sitting inside my car with out a clue what i had in my trunk and in my doors you wouldnt know if it was audiobahn/mtx/diamond audio or ALL JL audio.

Yes it is. You do get what you pay for. My SHO is All JL Audio and it has amazing sound and clarity. The amp and headunit are also very important components to both sound and clarity.

The point is, if you drive your SHO alot, save up for a system that's really good... you'll thank yourself later when your cruzing down the freeway at speed with cool tunes on.... trust me.
Just my 2 cents tho

If I get a job I'll be running....

Clarion HX-D10
Alpine Type X 5.25 or so, by a Bulter Audio Tube Amp (150x2 at 4ohm) PRE-PPI sellout

Two MKW180 Dynaudio woofers as midbass (I think I'm going to relocate my emergency brake to fit them in the kicks) (amplifier is undecided, I saw a Nak for cheap, and because it'll only play 60-200hz, it'd work)

One 18inch Beyond Audio, Inhuman subwoofer (amplifier undecided), I'm not sure if I can do a ported box, if I can I will but I doupt there will be room, it's going to be a challenge as is.....

Ive always been a fan of Inifinity speakers- if you were to get 4 infinity references off Ebay it wouldnt be anymore than $200. I'd also say bypass the stock amps if you are getting a new head unit- for a total of $400- $500, a new Pioneer deck and 4 infinities will make the sound SO much better than the stock system.

On a side note, if you are looking for bass, but not trunk rattling, guy down the street hears you bass, there is a setup at <eeekk> Pepboys that offers two 10's , a small amp, the box and the wiring kit for $129. I bought it, and even though it is cheap visonik stuff, it sounds decent and adds nice bass for the money.

I have a problem with so cheap it could cause a fire, like Visonik, Pyle, etc.....

Infinity is ok, but for the same price you can do better!

The worst mistake is to buy a deck, and speakers that are sized to big for the deck. Decks put out 18wRMS on a good day..... If you buy an amp and big speakers, it's all cool.

Match your RMS max, how about 16-20wRMS max speakers, to a deck. If you get an amplifier to the same thing but you can be a little more lienant. The best situation is to have more power then your speakers need, say 100wRMS speakers, and have like 150wRMS amplifer, lots of head room for tuning etc....

I was looking at amps and didn't realize they cost so much money... A decent one is like 200$ and I'm not replacing the head unit so I should up my amps?

I am siriusly afraid of a trunk fire car has already been salvaged once due to one!

(Bigc, seen you cut through the shop prking lot the other day, shoulda stopped and got a first hand look at the audio carnage....:)

The most important thing is not overloading the amplifiers, and proper wiring. Inproper wiring is the biggest cause of amplifier deaths and fires etc... You have to have properly sized wire for the power, ground, and speaker wires. If you don't you'll just burn it up or start a fire. Also make sure you have a good ground, that's important. There are a few ways to go about that.

If you push your amps to hard bad things happen, you've either got the wrong stuff to work togather, or just not loud enough equipment if your ending up cranking the gain extensivly and all the bass nobs.... Or you are a *** and like your ears to be perminatly damaged so some people that don't care can hear you.

Shoulda stopped by, but theres only one reason for me to come flying through that parking lot- I'm in a hurry and want to bypass the line at the light! If you plan on replacing the speakers I would suggest replacing the head unit as well. Also, I'd say spend some extra money on better front speakers, as the rears will basically be "rear fill" anyway- the fronts are closer to your ears, and what you will hear more of. Depending on what you want to do, let me know your budget and I can help you pick out some stuff or at least let you hear whats in my Jeep and SHO.

60K- Look, I too would rather have an Adire Audio Brahma or Resonant Engineering ***, but in reality, I dont need it. The SHO is my daily beater, and I just wanted some extra thump down low. The Visonik setup (for $99 on sale) was the best bang for the buck I could get. Sure, I could have bought two Kicker comp VRs, a small Alpine/Kicker/JBL amp, and then the box and the wiring for only $250-$300, but for the cost benefit, I couldn't beat the price of the Visonik kit. We don't all need the best of the best.

DUDE SERIOUSLY WHY CANT YOU JUST SAY "TO EACH HIS OWN"!!!!!!! It doesn't need to be your mission in life to put down other people setups and espuose your own personal preferences as those of some audio god.

Whatever Im out of this conversation, Ive seen you argue with other people in this Audio section and I want no part of it.

bigc, i agree with you.....to each his own.... nothing is going to burn if you wire it right. ive never had any problems with lower end stuff. all the super expensive great stuff like brahma, adire, zed, just isnt worth it unless you are going to be in a competition, pretty much anything you put in an sho will sound better than stock if you ask me, and wil be louder too just from a normal 50X4 head unit.
60k seriously if you are driving an sho than you already have a sweet ride, audio is just icing on the cake dont take it so seriously and dont put people down for not haveing EXACTLY what YOU think is the best.

Unbelievable....

I'm not telling people to spend extra money, other then you know, staying away from stuff that has started fires and burned out FAST.

You guys clearly are just ignoring what I type. I do not appreciate it, please stop.

I am not dissing on any ones system, I would of bought the same thing if I was you, IF I DID NOT KNOW BETTER. Fortunalty I take a lot of time out to very carefully choose what I want, for good reason. Good reason especially like I am poor so I do not have much money, I go to college, so how my money is spent on some thing as fruitaless like a a stereo, is important. I will not spend my money poorly, I do not have it to spare.

Pioneer speakers don't hit worth a crap, but they have decent highs. Infinity, in my opinion, is the best speaker brand period. SPEAKERS, not subs. They're highs and mids are crystal freaking clear, and they have some bass but if you want bass without subs I'd reccomend Polk.

But other than that, Infinity - Ownage for speakers.

Whatever you do, don't buy Sony.

I prefer Crystal Mobilesound. I have their better components (6.75") with 250 watts and a CMP 15 sub w/ 1kw going to it at the moment. For the price I got this stuff, roughly 30% off, it's pretty awesome. I'd definitely recommend their stuff to others, mine have held up REALLY well. I've even had the CMP plugged into the wall socket (3200 watt burp @ 60hz) for a second or two in a 2.5ft^3 box...talk about excursion!

Personally, I like Rockford, Infinity and Pioneer. I think overall, for what I listen to, Infinity is the best. You really need to go to a store and listen to speakers though. What may sound good to one person, may sound like crap to another.

You THINK Infinity is the best, but if you want to for the sake of arguement try and prove that, you will never be able to, ever, period. There is no POSSIBLE or FEASIBLE arguement here.

Also Infinity have been over rating their subwoofers for YEARS.

SHOblime, you got a 250wRMSx2 amp for your componets?

Plugging into the wall.... Good times...

For the system in my focus I currently run a JVC Arsenal series head unit with 50x4 power, pioneer 3 way 6x8's all the way around (even trade for my stock speakers at work  ) they aren't my favorite but I can't afford better right now. I'd rather have some Polk or Audiobahn (had them in my explorer I loved them and shouldn't of let them go :frown: ). And then for the lows I have a JBL class D 300.1 amplifier pushing a single Audiobahn 12" DVC sub in a small box. Frankly I've loved every audiobahn product I have. I don't have a lot of money to spend on the high dollar stuff. And for the money Audiobahn hits great and sounds good with a good quallity amp powering it. Plus you might be surprised how many people have been shocked to hear I only have one 12" in my trunk. They always seem to think I have 2 ;) I have absolutely no complaints and really wish I had kept my Audiobahn 6x8's that I had in the doors of my old explorer. They sounded much better than my current pioneers. :p
