The older the car, the worse the paint job. My car is an enamel with no clear coat, and that was pretty much the norm in 91. I know the 87 Buick Grand National actually got recalled for its lack of paint retention, being an enamel design also. When you start getting into the newer clear coat jobs, it starts being more resistant to chips, scratches buff out easier, etc. I'm not sure which colors when had clearcoats, but I bet it's not that hard to look up.
