I'm thinking of replacing my battery with an Optima "Yellow Top" Deep cycle battery. http://www.sounddomain.com/sku/OPTD750U I was wondering if anyone has or has had one and can tell me if it's worth buying. I am slowly going to build a very large sound system as money becomes avaliable (3 amp's, kappa perfect component all around, 2 kappa 120.3dvc sub woofers, line driver , equ. and crossover).

They are good batteries. They are more for cars with sytems in them and multiple battery set ups. If you're only going to need one battery I would suggest going with the Red Top. Also, do you know you will need the line driver? Why buy something you probably won't need?

Yes, Optima are good batteries, the blue top is the best to use with powerful stereos if you want such a battery. But you are paying a premium for a gell cell type battery which is mainly good for boats as it can be mounted in about any position. Actually, you can get a better performing battery in the regular electrolyte design, such as the Interstate, and save money. The gell type cells get a lot of hype, especially from car stereo enthusiasts who have way more enthusiasm and money than knowledge.
Use some of the savings to buy a higher amp alternator as you will need better than stock for a powerful stereo. A heavy duty alternator is way more important than the battery. [email protected] has 160 Amp alternators with epoxy coated windings, powder coating, heavy duty bearings, etc, very heavy duty for only $170.00 for SHOs. And the amps at idle are much better than stock. Also Cincinatti SHO has good 130 amp alternators. Dont bother with a capacitor, it is mostly hype, a way to get more money out of you by appealing to insecurity and lack of real electronic knowledge.
Heart Interface has nice 12 breakers for the stereo, much better than dinosaur fuses, in a nice panel with lights that change color when a breaker breaks. Fuses have to melt to break whereas these breakers sense overloads electromagnetically and will break much more reliably.
They also make a nice digital voltmeter/ammeter/battery condition meter (calibrated with Pleukert's Constant, so its accurate!)in dash panel size, 2 1/16th diameter.
The alternator is really important.

Dave,
I used to have a IASCA regional champion Honda that I have trophies nearly 5 feet tall from. I would have to disagree to the statement that capacitors are nothing but hype. I had SEVERE headlight dimming and charging problems with my stock alternator running the entire system, so we wired up 2 Optima red topped batteries, and a 3 farad capacitors from stinger, and the carging problems nearly disappeared. The red topped batteries run over $100 but they will be the last one you will have to buy for a while, especially for car audio applications. They also trunk mount very easily and can be displayed either in plexiglass or around neon lights with little worries of venting. I was unable to upgrade the alternator back in 95 cuz the cars idle and other functions were regulated by the output of the alternator, therefore the higher output alternator caused the engine to shut down. IMHO farads are good for power drains like with hard hitting bass and such. It also depends on how much power you are going to be running, the type of music you are going to listen to, and the size and number of your low end subwoofers. I had 3 JL audio 10w6 in a plexi box that was a very clean setup. It all depends on the application.... thumbs_u

Isn't the Optima type battery an absorbant mat type of recombinat battery?. Not a get cell. IIRC the electrolyte is absdorbed in a microtubular fiberglass mat. This matting is made up of 5nM ID fiberglass tubes which suck up the acid.
