I put my seal and rear **** tube and pan back together and still a no go in any gear. People I work with say it's a torque converter problem. The splines. My pan in my tranny and the fluid was perfect. Do you guys think it is just the converter or the pump shaft also? Wondering if it is something I should try and do myself? I'm 54, have the tools and a regular garage with regular jacks. After years of Motocross turning pro in 1978 then breaking body parts I'm like every one else. getting older and in pain....LOL but to save maybe $2,000 I'm thinking about it but never did a front wheel drive.

I have a factory manual on the 1993 SHO with it only having 124,000 miles. It is mint looking with a couple of oil leaks which I think the 100k maintenance should make it easier to get to.

My 3rd SHO and I hate to junk it after having over $3,500.00 in it already. Should I or shouldn't I? If I had to pay for the works it could be $3,000.00 with a rebuilt tranny. Not sure yet what it needs or what I should do. Open to suggestions?

Compare the dipstick levels with the engine cold and off, then running.

If the level drops from "very high" to normal when the engine is started, that will tell you that the pump is operating as a minimal level.

Where in Missouri are you?

you might do a little more checking w/ trans shops - you should get the trans pulled and reinstalled for $500-700, and the actual rebuild should be between $800-1500 depending on how many 'hard' parts need replaced.

I would definitely fix it rather than scrap it....

Certified Transmission is replacing the Torque Converter, transmission and the rear main seal. All for a little over $2,000.00. Can't wait to get it back. I think it was just the torque Converter but I'm glad it's getting a prebuilt unit by Certified. It was them or Jasper as I was afraid that a local shop might just fix what was broken and charge me the same. They had 1 rebuilt unit and ordered it yesterday and I might have it running by Friday maybe.

I had the same problem... No fluid pressure and it wouldn't go into any gear. Had a trans shop we send work to diagnose it for me for next to nothing, Guy swore up and down that it was the converter, and he had seen it happen before...Blah blah blah...

Bought a 3k Stall converter only to find that the splines on the end of the pump shaft that went into the convertor were practically rounded clean off... Does yours make any funny noises when it is running or if you rev it?

I picked it up from Certified Transmission today. A little over $2,100.00. It runs good and it feels good to have it up and running again. They did say I had a loose lower ball joint on the control arm. Need to check what's involved in replacing this.
